A link between worlds deserves more praise from the community. It often falls between the cracks of other Zelda greats, but it honestly offers some of the best concepts, story, and regions in a Zelda game. Plus, it was the Zelda game that prepared us for the switch titles. Great game and great video, my friend

I honestly love it more than a link to the past. The terror tower was a really cool but they should have added a boss rush mode with more difficult versions of the bosses. They really missed a good opportunity there. Would have added so much to an already amazing game. I really enjoyed those treasure dungeons sprinkled throughout the land. And the upgraded fire rod is the absolute best weapon in any zelda game. You get to spam a giant fire hurricane that destroys everything!

I just finished an N64 playthrough and I'd argue the atmosphere on the N64 is better than on the 3DS. For example the 3DS version is often too bright in areas intended to be dark (like the Ganon battle)

A Link Between Worlds is my favorite 2D Zelda (Minish Cap comes close, and Echoes of Wisdom has a strong chance of topping it), and it was my favorite Zelda game overall for a long time. I still like it more than Ocarina. The only issue is that it's so short, easy, and fun, that I played it tons of times in quick succession and bled it dry of content. Then I died about a dozen times against the final boss while doing a 5-heart, itemless, no upgrade run. Still a great game, but content is a bit limited. Definitely still somewhere in my top 5, and it should get far more praise or recognition from the community than it currently does. LBW was also a major factor in my decision to get a 3DS to begin with.

Nothing wrong with using a walkthrough. Games should be played for your enjoyment and at your pace and if a walkthrough helps your experience then go for it.
@luminary_rainchii

Okay in your defense, using a walkthrough to get you through the game is actually smart and should be more accepted. I played OoT on an old N64, and ran back and forth between the screen and my dad, who played the game over a decade prior. I didn't have access to the internet, but I had help; and if there's help, why not use it?

As someone who grew up with Zelda in the 90s, majority of the people i knew as a kid used the official strategy guide to complete OoT and Majora’s Mask or ask their friends how to get past certain sections of the game. So your way of playing OoT 3D back then is how many kids did it back in the day. 😂

I was twelve when Ocarina of Time first came out... I actually got stuck on Gohma. I had no idea what to do, because, y'know, even with tutorials on it (looking at the girl sitting on the shop, targeting the ladder in the slingshot room, etc.), aiming in 3D was still a completely new concept for someone who grew up playing 2D games. Video game sites like GameFAQs existed at the time, but this was before Reddit, before Google even, and the game had just come out... it would be ages before concise, reliable guides were made. So, I did what everyone did in the nineties... I went to find physical print media! 😂 The closest thing to a game store in the tiny town where I grew up (aside from Radio Shack) was the video store, which rented games... my dad took me, and while they didn't have any game guides, they DID have a few video game magazines. I think we bought a copy of Electronic Gaming Monthly or something, which contained a walkthrough for the first three dungeons. I distinctly remember that it was a little... colorful. The guide for Big Octo told you to "slap it in the ass" or something similar, which has always stuck with me.

100% solidarity for the crew of people who played OoT with a walk through their first time playing it. I had a Gameboy and later the other Nintendo handhelds growing up, and I think either Link's Awakening or one of the Oracle titles was the first one I played. I wanted to like OoT, but honestly? That first play through was ROUGH. I had more fun when I replayed it a few years later.

3DS ocarina of time was my first Zelda experience too! Growing up my mom was a huge fan of the original Zelda and I was just at GameStop one day, saw the game, and thought I’d pick it up since it was so cheap. Funnily enough, I beat the game with a guide as well since I was in 4th grade, and immediately wanted more. I then went to Majoras mask which is my favorite game of all time (I also played the 3DS version lol) and then I got triforce heroes. I slept on 2nd Zelda for so long because I didn’t think I’d be able to enjoy the games. Long story short, I played Botw and ToTK before ever touching a 2D Zelda

I'm sure the game is really fun with other people but the fact that they had barely any support for single player is crazy. Most other multiplayer games use bot characters for single player so it didn't make sense to not do that

The 3DS Zelda games I'd still say are my favourite entries in the series (maybe not Tri Force Hereos since none of my friends were into Zelda). This video really brought back the memories. I enjoyed how each of them had something that the others don't. Ocarina of Time was genuinely an eye-opening moment where previous I didn't think that video games could be so elaborate and emotional. Majora's Mask has such a mood by comparison, the time limit really stressed me out but I simultaneously wanted to do all the side quests to get the Fierce Deity's mask. A Link Between Worlds is the closest thing the series has seen to perfection. Also, I would still say that Majora's Mask 3D is a lot better than the original. The new save system, the more useful bomber's notebook and the Song of Double Time allowing you to go to any hour during the day are huge improvements. Things like the boss eyeballs or Zora swimming are more of a minor inconvinience.

Ocarina isnt just an amazing Zelda game to start with, it’s a great way to get into gaming period . By virtue of it being not just the first 3d Zelda but one of the earliest 3d titles in general, it gently guides players through its first half (child form) before throwing in the gauntlet in the second half which also fits very well with the game’s over world and subtext. It also has a very balanced mix of over world exploration, side quests, and dungeons (that are both linear and non linear) which will give all sorts of players different things to look forward to while also not overbearing players with the stuff they don’t enjoy as much.

Man, this video took me back! I had the same exact experience as a kid with OoT 3D being my first ever "proper" video game and also my first Zelda game. I was completely and utterly confused about everything, but I luckily had a friend back in 3rd grade that also had OoT 3D and he helped me with basically everything. Now I look back on OoT 3D as my favorite game of all time, because it shaped my whole perspective of games as a whole while also enlightening my childhood with its playful, exciting and beautiful world. I regularly replay OoT now and I think I know close to everything about it now, but it still has a hint of that childhood wonder it once had. The music stuck with me forever and I will always be thankful to Koji Kondo for creating the most nostalgic and my absolute favorite video game OST af all time. I really can't describe into words what this game has done for me. I have so many incredible and dear memories of it and I will always be glad to have grown up with the 3DS and all of its games

It's crazy to think that now younger generations are having similar experiences with Ocarina of Time that people back in the day also had. I first really played OoT in the early 2000s in maybe 3rd grade with my cousin's old N64. They had the really old 1.0 version of the cartridge where you could still hear the chanting in the fire temple and the Gerudo symbol was the Muslim crescent moon and star

I had the original N64 OoT. I did not have trouble in Deku Tree. (In fact, I'm pretty sure there is something that tells you to burn the stick.) But I ran into trouble with the riddle in the second dungeon. I read the manual, and knew that the game had time mechanics. And somehow I got into my head that "seeing red" meant timing things perfectly for sunset, when the shy would be red. It never occurred to me to bomb the eyes. And this was before I'd ever realized you could look up walkthroughs online.

I wasn't 10 but definitely in my youth. *EDIT:* I feel kinda bad about just complaining about being old as my engagement with this video, so I'll share some candid experiences with my time with Zelda. A core memory for me is finally beating Majora's Mask years later after I got older and calling my brother out of pure excitement to tell him. Another core memory was me and my sister being shown a trailer for Twilight Princess and losing our minds wanting it. Then for Christmas we collaborated and merged our Christmas money from our Grand parents together to buy Twilight Princess. We were so happy then and I like looking back on those moments.

I love Triforce heroes and Hyrule Warriors 😭 I’m really sad we can’t play it anymore because online services are GONE NOW ;;;; It was really fun going through challenges with my brother helping me, and Triforce heroes was so much fun to play with my cousins!! It was quite chaotic to get through dungeons, and the emotes are still so cute 🥹

Tri Force Heroes is actually one of my favorite Zelda games, and yes, the singleplayer mode isn't great. The game is amazing and ridiculous to play with friends (as intended). I didn't find the first levels hard though, the worst singleplayer part was that it was slow to get through levels. Miniboss of the 3rd area (Volcano), was also not great in singleplayer.

Odd you talked about dropping oot with monster hunter in the background, only to pick it up again later. I got MHFU for my psp when i was about 11-12 and had NO idea how to play. Dropped it for a few weeks and then started experimenting a bit more. Once i figured it out, it has been a lifelong favorite series of mine (at least until the newer games, I personally just enjoy the old skill tree system a lot more because it could get really minmaxxy, that and I think the newer games are a lot faster paced and I liked taking my time with positioning and hits and healing etc)

Same premise. I played OOT 3D as as my first zelda game (coincidence that my mom also let me buy a game i want at that time). As normally a shooter / survival horror player, zelda was way new and a different experience for me. Game felt too big in my first try. The water temple didn't bother me the first time, or maybe bc resident evil taught me to inspect every detail of the game. Then I enjoyed Majoras Mask 3D more because i know the zelda structure, yet did not know the fallbacks to the port as well. Love still stemmed for the series from there.

The best way to get worth out of Tri Force Heroes would be for Nintendo to do an HD Port of A Link between Worlds and include the game alongside it. The original Four Swords came packed in with A Link to the Past... why not put Tri Force Heroes with A Link Between Worlds?? Then everyone can get to play A Link Between Worlds, and they get a fun multiplayer game as a bonus! Everybody wins!

Just wanna point out, that Nintendo didn’t have control how Ocarina Of Time was made, they only had control of the console and hiring Grezzo to make it. Also the changes made in the game, were all by Grezzo.

My first Zelda game was on a SNES emulator on my phone, playing Link to the Past, and I've loved the series ever since. I've always mostly preferred 2D Zelda after that though, the exceptions being the BotW/TotK duology (those games, while there are certain flaws, scratch an itch in my brain other games don't).

I’m surprised you didn’t play online with others in triforce heroes which was a thing you could do at the time you could play with anyone whether you knew them or not all you’d have to do is play online and then search for players and overtime you’d be able to play with people I did this all the time because I didn’t have people who played this game myself, and I managed to get through majority of the game playing online with with others
