Sad times when loco's are consigned to the scrapyard...Thanks Snuffy
@maddennis5512 жыл бұрын
Curious how it takes two heavy road locos to move three little yard goats! I have pics of all four of those in their as delivered look! I'll try to see if I can locate them and post them. They were in Union Pacific (2), and Santa Fe (2).

Sad. Those MK1200s were built in my home town of Boise. Great video Snuffy.

A lot of it had to do with the State's draconian environmental standards. BNSF didn't want another frivolous lawsuit by the Watermelons (Green on the outside, Red on the inside).
@DaimosZ5 жыл бұрын
And given their Dictatorial Environmental regulations have slipped into the national scene with the "Green [Red] New Deal" making rounds in the radical left, I think we should start realizing that the writing for many of our favorite locomotives across the nation like SD40-2's and SD60's is on the wall..
@beeble20036 ай бұрын
That doesn't sound right. These were LNG-powered, and LNG burns very cleanly.
@AtsfMike55911 жыл бұрын
Evidently so. I too occasionally see both red and silver, and blue and yellow GP60's, but they are very scarce now. They too, are on borrowed time.
@KISSFanDan19956 жыл бұрын
I wonder if you can buy full locomotives from scrap yards. If I owned a short line railroad I’d but these off of them.
@therookie92766 жыл бұрын
Go ahead to see maintenance costs.
@AtsfMike55911 жыл бұрын
What really surprised me was to see another posting of a "funeral train" somewhere back east that consisted of SD75I's. Those are newer yet. Even some of those were painted in Heritage II paint scheme, too. I guess the push is on to eradicate everything that isn't a GEVO, or an AC4400 from the BNSF livery. Really sad was to see all those GP 30's and 35's and 38-2's they got rid of. The "Santa Fe" will never be the same. Mike in Fresno, Ca.

Why are they getting rid of new Gensets? And why is one painted in ATSF Bluebonnet?
@BenjaminEsposti7 жыл бұрын
These aren't new. They aren't gensets either. They are LNG fueled locomotives.
@JonRailVideos2011-16 жыл бұрын
And as for the paint, the 1201 was acquired back in the 90s when the ATSF was still around I believe.-Jon
@JonRailVideos2011-16 жыл бұрын
The 1202 and 1203 were once Union Pacific I believe too.-Jon
@therookie92766 жыл бұрын
They replaced them with GP60M-3's and 3GS-21B's I think. Which'll start running the locals in Vernon junction.
@alco251b95 жыл бұрын
On google maps it shows them intact except for the middle part of the long hoods, which are sitting on flatcars.
@TomNall12 жыл бұрын
So, I am guessing the "MK" designation means Morrison-Knudsen. These look to be recycled from old Geeps.

Cela fait longtemps que je suis abonné a vos vidéo et elles sont toujours aussi belles Merci.
@SouthCalifas6199 жыл бұрын
i remember seeing a bnsf video of them barely getting those and talking about those being the newest advanced technology not too long ago what happened? too many malfunctions?
@BenjaminEsposti7 жыл бұрын
Probably. They used Caterpillar engines ... and they were LNG powered as well. Spark ignited, apparently, like a regular gasoline engine.
@AVeryRandomPerson4 жыл бұрын
These are MK1200s, not NRE Gensh*ts. They were rebuilt from old Geeps in the 90s.
@vzjtothalo112 жыл бұрын
4 were built by Morrison-Knudsen in the early 1990's for the UP and SF (2 for each)for use on this piece of railway around LA. They were CNG/LNG powered.
@TheNWClassA121812 жыл бұрын
i thought they keep most of the stuff. They say that there are still some older units that wear either the green of the Bn or the yellow and blue of the SF.

Wow, nice video, and a good catch, Hard to believe they were going to the scrapper as they look like mew.. Thank you!!
@sailor_mikey12 жыл бұрын
they look more modernized like they were built in 04 or something. how come they are scraping/retiring? probily the LAJ dosent need these switchers anymore (now that they have the UP Gensets)?

@Creeperboy0997 жыл бұрын
They could've been sold and re-painted!
@wes5150.3 жыл бұрын
I remember them well. They were a pain to work with but they were suprisingly strong. A propane cigaret lighter close to one of the many 'Gas Detectors' would shut em down and activate warning sirens.
@goober2398 жыл бұрын
I don't get it. Aren't they brand new?
@Random.Channel_7 жыл бұрын
No those ant genisets
@Trainlover19958 жыл бұрын
These units were scrapped because LAJ is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of BNSF, and therefore, BNSF can just use its older four-axle units.
@frostgfx7 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why Res buy new Gensets... only to scrap them a short time later? At least they could be sold off rather than scrapped.
@BenjaminEsposti7 жыл бұрын
They might not be reliable enough (wouldn't be surprised, Cat engines haven't been too reliable in locomotives), and they also are natural gas powered, not diesel! They use the Caterpillar G3516 if I'm not mistaken, which is a spark-ignited LNG version of the 3516 diesels.

Truly is a sad sight to see them go, but hopefully some other company will buy them than sending them to the scrapper, if one company I could probably see buying them would be CEFX to convert them from MK1200's to GP20D's, but if not who knows what's gonna happen to them. Nice catch Snuffy
