Nice collection of memories you’ve posted. Hired out on the LAJ (Losers And Junkies) in 1993. A few years down the tracks and Tommy Purscelly (Engineer), Big John Prenatt (Conductor) and myself, ran a weekend Extra (Extree) and moved more cars (spotting & pulling) in a single shift than any crew in LAJ history. Dropping, kicking and gravity moving cars across the entire railroad. It was three-men who took their jobs and living life to the fullest, seriously. I’ll never forget those days, and 30-years on, I’m still railroading in the Pacific Northwest…

@@LARailProductions Truly, it was the greatest place to learn how to railroad. The stories are endless, and all of them true, and no place can ever replace the nights spent at the C-yard shack - building fires in the 55 gallon drum out of creosote ties - sipping freshly made hot coffee from your cup. We were renegades from a bygone era, but we had our reasons…

Fascinating. I wonder how many cars and trucks have been struck over the decades (?). Anyway, thank you posting this. There's something fascinating about those old industrial areas south of downtown L.A. I guess because it's so out-of-sync of our images of Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Echo Park, Silver Lake, Marina del Rey, Venice Beach, etc., etc.
