not only that but your always gonna be hated for using a weapon on a woman especially one who can't fight and job is to keep the leader king head safe which she did wonderfully here and also that weapon the guard used if for battle but no fight was happening so he had no right totally outside his protocol :P

That guard was probably executed. He made enemies of her father and admirer/love interest, both of whom hold enormous power in the imperial court.

Ceremony or not, life-threatening claims would have been taken very seriously during this time period, enough so to stop the whole ceremony. Striking a disobedient or disrespectful servant wouldn’t be out of the ordinary, however his attempt to make a followup strike and the fact that he struck her face (which was heavily frowned upon in general) would have been enough to automatically dismiss him from service for misconduct. The fact that her claim was true would ultimately make the guard’s actions either viewed as neglecting his duty or outright treason, both which would be enough to get him beheaded. She wasn’t some random servant girl though, she was his personal aid, which would have basically guaranteed when he struck her face that his life would then be forfeit.

I do not read LN nor manga, but i interpreted it quite differently. (Spoiler alert) Due to Lakans not being able to recognize persons face, i believe that shock is more into him able to see Mao2s face, hence solidifying Mao2 as his biological daughter. Because prior to this scene, lakan never saw mao2s face.

​@@udelbiawak4405No. Maomao is actually one of the few person that he can see the real face without problem due to her being his daughter. So the shock was more of an anger. Anger that his daughter got hurt and nearly died.

@@udelbiawak4405 actually he knew maomao was his daughter, he once went to find maomao when she was little however at that time we was pretty beaten up by the grandma so maomao was quite traumatised by him 😂

It’s pretty clear that he knew she was his daughter, the shock was for 2 reasons, one for her injury, and the other because he realized that not only exactly who Jinshi is, but how much he cares about Maomao. Him going out in public, in that outfit, choosing to carry her himself, is a pretty huge deal.

@ He was doing his job but he did not need to beat her with a metal bat nor try to beat her more when she was down. The only reason he didn’t hit her a second time while she was lying on the ground was because the other guard stopped him. Further Jinshi would have died because of his interference so he would’ve been beheaded himself

@@DanA-10357 Well, you don't pay (let live) guards to just look mean, do you? Maomao goaded the guard specifically because she knows how things work. Also, at the time Maomao only had an educated guess of what would happen, from the perspective of a guard that's just baseless conjecture. So yeah, he would have lost his head, but by doing his job correctly.

@@Limrasson Him doing his job properly doesn’t change the fact that he overreacted and deserved every single physical punishment he got after that. And that “conjecture” was the author’s words so you can guarantee that would have happened at least in this story.

@@DanA-10357 No and also no. If he did his job properly, he did not overreact. And the conjecture part was that it's reasonable to not believe Maomao. A crazed, unknown servant girl rushes you with some "big bad gunna happen" deal? Yeah, no. He is only punished because because the servant girl happens to be the daughter of a high ranking general and an interest to the prince. This is the same how the naysayers in House MD. seem to be the villains while they are the reasonable characters.

@hjklmnbhijk No you wouldn't, that's a very low IQ thing you even suggested. She probably has a concussion from the scvm that hit her, last thing she needs is to be rushed around to worsen it. When people get hurt and the ambulance comes, there is a reason they slowly put them up on the stretcher and carry then carefully to the ambulance, instead of carrying them fast as possible like a sack of potatoes.

@hjklmnbhijk actually wrapping a wound tightly and moving slowly is actually better for an injury. The faster you move the faster the injury loses blood 🩸. Also if you move faster the greater the chance of agitating any internal injury like torn muscles, ligaments, tendons or broken bones. So you want to make sure the injured person doesn’t move too much while being carried

Considering the time back then, and the fact that she saved the dude’s life. That guard was definitely punished if not beheaded due to his apparent incompetence. If not for her a high ranking official could’ve died. The possibility of this failure will rest entirely on him as he attempted to stop her. Now she clearly succeeded, but his attempted impairment is enough to warrant severe punishment

​@@thevilemace6121tbf the Guard was litteraly doing his job and the ceremony is sacred, messing with that would also behead him if he didnt do it. Mind you hed probably be a scapegoat and still be punished, because imperial times were inherently unfair, but in all honesty under a fair system aside from suspicion of collaboration in an assassination attempt, he had litteraly no reason to let a girl screaming to hell and back hed be killed etc... At best if possible given the nature of the ceremony probably shouldve sent a guard to check, but certainly not let a random lady in waiting with no autority inside freely. Hell in order to let her in she had to receive the autority of basically the best strategist of the empire, so trusted and high up the hierarchy the litteral Emperor would basically trust his strategy with little doubt

@@neilkurzman4907 Aye, of course. What I mean though is it all seems to be made the way it was to lead the viewer to suspect Lakan and think he was behind the plot to 'assassinate' Jinshi. I could be wrong of course, but it does seem that way with how everything Lakan was portrayed up until that point. Might also have watched too many animes that have tons of people that are always plotting one thing or another so I just don't trust anything.

I have not read the LN, nor any written material, but I believe Jinshi carrying Maomao is a statement. It is true, anyone could've carried and rushed her to get treatment, but everyone in that venue knew who Jinshi really is. He wanted to make a statement, not just to Lakan, but to everyone that Maomao is under his direct protection. Also Lakan acting that way after seeing them walk out can be read in two ways. One is that Jinshi is serious over Maomao. Second is Maomao got hurt, and he did not plan for that.

I can't remember (I should, before I watch S2) but I think one of these is the answer. Lakan is innocent, but had a hunch for a while that something in the court is wrong. His hunch is always accurate apparently as a master strategist, but can't put his finger on it what it is. He goads Jinshi to investigate court conspiracies, who then goads Maomao into checking them out putting her in harm's way. Lakan is supposed to be the mastermind who wanted to kill the VIP of the ceremony, but didn't know it was Jinshi. This could be unlikely tho.

How about having a bigger ego than your abilities, making enemies with management, insulting them. Nope, the authors usually build up a lot of regret scenes that u think characters will suffer for their wrong doings but all the development is thrown out and the author will start running on a treadmill of fetishes. In simple terms almost no payback for wrong doers but mc should just forgive, forgot, the example above.
