I live part time in a home in Ajijic and another in Florida. For what the area has to offer, nothing compares with Ajijic for what it gives to Expats: Best weather in the world year round, incredible variety in 200+ restaurants, great Expat community that supports charitable needs in Ajijic while always respecting the local Mexican way of life (We don't want it to be another USA), OK, prices might be a little higher, but so very low compared to the USA. The beauty and charm of Ajijic will fill your heart!

Prices go up only on the areas where USA immigrants land, they bring the same US real state sistem to México, if they like one home, they usually offer above the asking price. Mexican sistem is to offer 50% less of the asking price, from there they start the negotiation to make a deal.
@lockharthometeam23442 жыл бұрын
@@angeljuarezjuarez5240 50 percent less? Wow, that’s good to know!
@angeljuarezjuarez52402 жыл бұрын
@@lockharthometeam2344 Yes, when we (mexicans) put our propperty on sale, that means we really need the money AND we expect a much lower offer, to end at about 75% of the asking price, but, foreignes changing all that, they pay top price, they even offer more to make sure they secure that propperty. Just check the huge difference on prices between towns where foreignes concentrate AND towns where they're not in yet.

JP, I think the way you can get a better grasp of the floor numbering system is to think of them as STORIES rather than as "floors". So obviously you have the ground level, and then the first STORY, and then the second STORY. That's the system that I use. I hope it helps.

I plan on retiring next year and went on an exploratory trip to Ajijic earlier this year. A very charming town, but when the real estate agent told me the prices of the houses she showed me, I was really surprised. They cost more than the homes in my U. S. neighborhood! @@bjm9071 just curious, why does an American want to move to Mexico to be around Americans? Yes normally it’s less expensive, but not so much now. I used to go to Cancun in the 80’s and it was inexpensive. Now they have adjusted their prices because of they know Americans will still pay. I want to have a place in Mexico and have looked many times at lake chapala. I understand Americans feel more comfortable around other Americans and Canadians, but I really would rather be around Mexicans for the language, culture and better weather. I’m around Americans everyday here in Texas. Just curious. And my neighbor has a good friend that retired and moved to Ecuador. Didn’t know Spanish when he arrived 11 years ago. So far still likes it, but he said there were something’s he didn’t like too.

I assume differing building codes have something to do with the cost difference.

@@hootowl6354 you would assume incorrect. The low cost is mainly due to lower costs of construction materials and LABOR.
@hootowl6354 Жыл бұрын
@@sesomnoslen5729 I didn't say codes was the main thing. Less bureaucracy has to lower building costs. Building codes are lax in many 'developing' countries, and I assume they are in most, if not all of Mexico. But yeah, labor is a huge way to cut costs - probably the largest, in the case of Mexico. What I was thinking is that having less stringent building codes can come back to bite you, especially in earthquake prone countries.
