I enjoyed Ecuador, but I really enjoyed Ajijic two weeks ago. I locked in an apartment and I should be arriving tomorrow by auto. it is a magical place and not just because it’s 500-year-old village, but because it has a energy vortex there at the end of the malacon I was told. I can’t argue about that because I felt very very joyful the whole time I was there.

We've lived in the Lago Chapala area for just over 5 years. We live in San Antonio Tlayacapan (where Super Lake is located). You are correct about the streets. That's the one thing I don't like about Lakeside, all of the cobblestones. Honestly, I try to avoid Ajijic as much as possible. Everything there is centered around gringos. Yes, there is obviously a lot of locals who live there as well but a lot of the businesses cater to the gringo community. Food, rent, and ATM fees are all 'gringo priced' in Ajijic. Case in point, ATM fees at my bank in San Antonio Tlayacapan are only 58 pesos, not the ridiculous 180+ that you paid in Ajijic. There are two overwhelming positives to living here, (1) the people; the Mexican people are the warmest, friendliest people anywhere, and (2) the weather; it's practically perfect year round. The exception being the month of May when it can be very hot and dusty.

I agree with the poster above. I also live in San Antonio Tlayacapan because I didn't want to live in a community that catered so much to gringos. although we also have cobble stone streets they are less rough to walk and bike on and ours are also wider than what I find in Ajijic.

Some misconceptions in this video: 1. Quietness: Like every Mexican hot town this place is relatively quiet during the day but in the evening and nights, especially on weekends, it gets very noisy when everybody gets out and start celebrating. 2. Weather: You arrived here when there was a hurricane in the pacific that caused the weather to be very comfortable. Usually it is hot and the sun can be very strong. the UV alert for this place is usually the highest all year around. Even in the winter it can be hot during the day if there is no cold front. 3. Lake Chapala: It is big but very shallow. It is very contaminated and the viewers can see that in the video. One should be very careful not to eat fish here because the fish in the lake could be contaminated heavily with heavy metals.
@AmeliaAndJP2 жыл бұрын
We mentioned the hurricane and even talked about how it affected the weather. In the neighborhood where we stayed, it was very quiet and we walked around El centro at night. Bougainvillea. The purple plant. The purple (there are many different colors and varieties) part is actually made up of modified bracts/leaves surrounding the tiny white flowers. How did you manage to spend all these years in the tropics and not know what this plant is? It's probably the best-known tropical shrub on the planet. PS: I don't think Orwellian means what you think it means. :)

Living near the border does provide an opportunity for people to work in the United States like San Diego especially those who have jobs that can't be remote like grocery stores and restaurants. Helloooo from Ouray, CO! Thank you very much for sharing your Ajijic trip with us! We are on the hunt for a part time expat spot in Mexico. My wife’s family used to go to Ajijic yearly. After watching your video, I can see why! Wow….very charming; and it looks like there is plenty to do! QUESTION- did you come across a fair amount of live music when you were roaming around Centro? We visited Mazatlan in late August. We really liked just about every aspect of it there, except the heat/humidity. Yes..we would be winter visitors, so that probably wouldn’t be a factor. But…under the auspices that we should plan to go to a spot that we like year round in the event we want to full time, Mazatlan may not be favorable for us. We are visiting Mexico City next week. No doubt, we will find all the things we like. Of course, that area is a metropolis; so I will be curious how we feel there. In February/March, we will visit Oaxaca. My wife’s aunt goes there annually. We really like her, so it would be awesome to be there when she is. Plus, who knows, maybe eventually we could just share a rental in the future. I guess my biggest objection for Ajijic would be that it may have too many expats for me. But, I am definitely excited to check it out someday as it does look fun! Safe travels!

@@davebonar1 PS! I wanted a kitchen and my own place, especially my first trip since I was supposed to have extensive dental work.

Good video. I visited Ajijic looking for property, but was VERY disappointed that the lake is so polluted that you cant sail, swim, windsurf, or even fish. I think it is industrial waste from up-river. I think your viewer should know this. Thanks.

We will talk about that in a future video.

Major dangers in Ajijic 1~tripping on cobblestones 2~slipping on dog/horse/cow poop 3~getting run over by a golf cart 😂

I lived here from 7 months. Lots of pluses and minuses to consider for those considering long term residency.

Thanks for the comprehensive walk about Ajijic. Did you speak to many expats while there? I’m curious to hear how they like it. Also, are there any gyms or public pools there? What kind of cultural events do they have?

We’ll talk about these more in another video 👍

There are several gyms in the area. In Ajijic, the most popular is Family Fitness, same building as the movie theater. Also sky fitness in west Ajijic. There are other gyms along the lake. Those are just the Ajijic ones. I'm not aware of public pools. There's many community pools but all the ones I know of aren't open to the public.

Ajijic is home to the largest expatriate community in Mexico. With this information, do you think they like it or not? And very close to there are spas with very accessible hot springs, in San Juan Cosalá. But if you have a budget you can simply have your own pool at home, it is the most common. Everywhere you need money if you want to live well.

I thought we were going to get the "Amelia bought a bottle of tequila and you won't believe what happened next!" video. 😲 LOL @ the Snyders of Hannover pretzels. Central PA is where I grew up. Not what one expects from central Mexico.

Hi Amelia & JP... Do you think you two would ever move to Chapala or Ajijic?... it looked like Amelia really loved the entire area... My wife and I have been to Ajijic 3x and really enjoyed it as well. Our friends lived there now, they were from Los Angeles... they made a good decision... the area is so nice and the weather is perfect!

They are immigrants by definition and by action, because they are not expelled, they are retirees living in another country "this action" means migration, when they get the residency they become "immigrants" (We do not have a Mexican Institute for Expats, we have the INM = National Institute of Migration where the US retirees can apply for legal residency in the country if they are approved they become IMMIGRANTS not longer tourist) Other thing: Americans are all people living in the American continent no only you, the name of your country is United States of America, not AMERICA, AMERICA is a whole continent. USE YOUR COMMON SENSE.
