Welcome to one of the most beautiful lakes in Germany.
Lake Constance!
Lake Constance is a 63 km long lake in the foothills of the Alps between Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The lake fed by the Rhine consists of two interconnected parts, the lower lake and the larger upper lake.
The shore length of both lakes is 273 km. Lake Constance, also known as the Swabian Sea, is the largest inland waterway in Germany and the third largest lake in Central Europe. The deepest point of the lake is 251 m. Overall, the lake has an area of 571.5 km ².
A wonderful day begins after about three hours drive with the arrival in Meersburg on Lake Constance. The weather is still changeable, but it will be even more beautiful later. With the car ferry we go over to Constance.
The duration of the crossing is about 15 minutes and costs € 15.60 for a single trip. The ferry leaves every 15 minutes from Easter to November.
Constance is the largest city on Lake Constance and lies on the border with Switzerland. The neighboring Swiss town of Kreuzlingen has grown together with Constance, so that the state border runs right through between individual houses and streets.
Arrived in Konstanz we explore the surroundings on the shores of Lake Constance. The lake night festival program starts at 03.00 pm, the fireworks at 10.15 pm. A gigantic fireworks show that should not be missed. The long version of it can be seen in a separate video (link below). The Constance lake night festival has long earned the status of "cult". For over 65 years, one of the largest open-air festivals on Lake Constance has been rising here in August. Every summer, up to 50,000 visitors come to Constance to experience the Mediterranean atmosphere of the Nautical Festival, to celebrate, to feast and to enjoy.
The spectacular highlight of the Lake Constance Night Festival is undoubtedly the lake fireworks - one of the largest in Europe.
The next day we had an excellent Italian meal in the Ristorante "La Grotta". Very delicious and absolutely recommendable!
After that, a trip to Mainau Island was planned. We postpone that to another time and instead take the ferry back to Meersburg. At short notice, we decided to take a look at this beautiful little place right on Lake Constance. Who would have thought that there is so much to see and hear ... What exactly, that you will see soon in Part 2.
My recommendation:
Restaurant Pizzeria La Grotta, Untere Laube 33, 78462 Konstanz.
A very cozy Italian restaurant, with a rustic ambience, outdoor terrace and very friendly service. Our pasta selection was fantastic and delicious.
Excellent price / performance ratio! Many thanks to Tonino and Manu for the pleasant service! We will definitely be back!
