Follow Sue and I on this stunning route to Helvellyn. We start at Swirls car park and head South along the A591 towards Grasmere before turning left and heading up the beautiful Raise Beck to Grisedale Tarn. After some well earned lunch with some great views of St Sunday Crag we muster the energy to make our final ascent to Dollywaggon Pike. The toil was totally worth it as we were treated to some of the greatest views of St Sunday Crag you can imagine. Pushing on to Nethermost Pike then finally on to Helvellyn where we took some good shots of Striding & Swirral edge. Heading back we skipped across to Lower Man then the steep descent back down to the car park. Then, of course, as with all our adventures we end up in the local pub for a well earned pint of Lakeland ale.. or two.
We hope you enjoy..

Thanks for your video.... we did this exact route last Sunday after watching your video. This walk has absolutely everything.... the walk up Raise Beck - fantastic... Can't understate how steep that walk up Dollywaggon is but absolutely worth it.... Thank you 😊

Hi Oliver, Thanks for watching 🙏 Yes it is one of our favourite routes that one.. I hope you had the sunshine we enjoyed which gave us some fabulous views. The climb up to Dollywaggon isn't for the feint hearted to say the least... a few pit stops had to be made up that one, but the views from the top made it all worth while. Thanks for watching again 🙏😃 All the best Matthew & Sue

So glad your video came into my feed. Loved the video , the route, the drone bits and all the commentary. That was a tough one and I know it because we did the same route a few years ago but in reverse. We got a very warm day and the final walk through the forest was a killer as we were totally out of energy. Our video style is a bit different but we learn from each other I think. We come across to the Lakes once a year for 2-3 weeks and we just love the place. Looking forward to more of your videos, regards, Ashley

Hi Ashley, Thank you for watching.. Thank you for your kind comments as I am only just s beginner when I look at what you have achieved on your Chanel.. I also see you were out one day with Alan Metalman... I like to watch Alan's films also.. The Lakes is a very special place and we are fortunate enough to be able to go quite often so we are looking to do a few more this year.. Thanks Again Matthew & Sue

@@crag_mavericks I would say your videos are all to a very high standard. I make so many mistakes its a miracle I get enough decent footage for a video!! Often it's the location that makes the difference. We've done 4 walks with Alan and they've all been epics - full of chat from start to finish - he's got real class in front of the camera.

Yes the location does make a big difference, but we mainly do these films so we will be able to look back when we are too old to get up the hills.. All the best Matthew

@@crag_mavericks I only started putting the videos on youtube as somewhere that family and friends could easily access them. I never thought anyone else would want to watch them. But you are right, great to look back on too as the video keeps the memory alive. I learn lots from everyone else and get inspiration. Ashley

Another nice bit of filming Matt. I think that is the route to take Louise up to Helvellyn. I would probably park at Wythburn though, then come back down from Nethermost straight into the car park 🙂 Just seen, I was right about the car 😀
