Skiddaw was always one that we had looked upon from other fells but had always escaped our attention when planning routes.
Skiddaw is a mountain situated in the norther fells of the English Lake District. Standing at 3054ft it is the sixth heights peak in England.
Skiddaw is a stone throw away from the very popular village of Keswick where there is an easy 'ish' route to the summit of Skiddaw that can be climbed by relatively fit walks of all ages. The path from Keswick is very large and straight forward to navigate and is very popular in all months of the year.
We spotted the perfect day, the weather looked pretty good and the route was hatched.
We set off in beautiful warm Lake District sunshine and parked up at a small lay by just off the A591 past Keswick. It was a perfect day and to save on weight with all our camera equipment we decided to leave the waterproofs behind.... A decision we soon regretted... We were soon heading up to the first summit Ullock Pike. We then quickly soaked up a further two more including Long Side and Carl Side. A very steep climb up to Little Man then clouds started to rumble in over Derwent Water... keeping a close eye on the impending storm we set off over to Lonscale Fell for our 5th of the day.
The storm brewed and bubbled away quickly making its way over towards Skiddaw. The storm hit us as we approached Jenkin hill as we made our final ascent up to Skiddaw. The thunder was pretty unearving to say the least but at least my undies stayed dry..
Reaching the summit of Skiddaw the clouds parted to give us a beautiful view from the top. Off then onto our final Wainwright 'Bakestall' We were however disappointed that there were no cake stalls at Bakestall...
So that was it done 7 Wainwrights and a damn good soaking.. all that remained was to get to the pub for a dry out and a few pints.
Really hope you enjoy this one as much as we enjoyed walking it and filming.
Many thanks
