S1E34 (Lake Eilod Camp No.2)
This is camp No.2 of the road trip...what a perfect spot.
We left our previous camp at Blowering Dam in NSW and crossed the border into Victoria.
A couple of hours NE of Melbourne, there is a nice little town called, Mansfield. (A great place to stock up on some fresh food, including delicious bakery goods)
A short drive from Mansfield is a stunning lake camping area.
'Sheep Dip Flat' doesn't sound an appealing place to camp but it was the perfect, private camping spot, right next to the water.
The weather turned bad within a few minutes of arriving. So I had to set the camper up in a thunder, rain and hail storm, luckily it didn't last long. The weather was perfect after that, with bright sunny afternoons and stunningly colourful sunrises over the lake.
I hope you enjoy!

Beautiful campsite nearly makes me want to join you 😂 Digger as usual stole the show, ears flapping in the wind via the wing mirror & cooling off the the ‘mud’ instead of all that lovely clear lake

@@4X4CA ummm… you always manage to capture the ‘feel’ / ‘energy’ of each location in your shots. It’s not an easy thing to do. You can tell there’s thought in every shot, every angle - not just point camera, hit record and hope for the best. Hope that makes sense?

Now THIS is my kind of camp! Minus the hail storm during set up. Lol. And of course Digger lounges in the dry comfort of the truck while you get pounded with hail. I would expect no less from you and how well you treat that sweet boy. Absolutely gorgeous sunrise over the lake. Thanks for the adventure, Frank!

Cheers, Kevin 👍 I find camping sites by first looking for State Forests in the area I want to go to. Then I use google to search for descriptions, photos and reviews of camping in that forest. I also use Wikicamps. Any mods you recommend for my camper?

I had the exact same gazebo and so many times after heavy rain the roof sagged, a lot… Changed the roof, same thing. I got rid of the Wanderer and bought a Kings 3x3m gazebo. And let me tell you, the roof does not leak and definitely does not sag during heavy rain… Much cheaper and oh so much happier….
@4X4CA

Hey, Ted I now have a 3x3 too…I think the 4.5m was a bit too long and easily sags under lots of rain. 👍

@@4X4CA I had the 3x3 Wanderer. It was good when it wasn’t raining. I haven’t been able to fault the Kings gazebo (I don’t work for Kings by the way hahaha), considering it was so cheap.

hey Franky..... man I don't know how you do it finding these furkin magic spots but you have stretched goal line again with this one mate, I have been to Mansfield a few times but nothing recent it's a nice town with lots of history what a superb camp site. what was the go with no fire.........was there a ban that day? have to say - Looks like the camper is standing up so far, any regrets or things you want to change? Cheers and wishing you and Digger a merry holiday with lots of cool camping stuff.

Cheers, Steve! I'm always looking or making notes when I hear about a nice camping spot. Yeah, Mansfield was a nice town in a great location. I wasn't sure if there was a fire ban or not so didn't light one. The camper is going great, so happy I finally got one. towing is easier than I thought...but it is light, low and narrow, so not too dissimilar to a garden box trailer

Cheers, Chris The camper is an off road version...it has a decent chassis, independent suspension and a poly block hitch. So far I've only taken it down well graded unsealed roads and a short but rough section on the first stop over on the 'Wedding road trip' video. Before heading to more remote locations, I want to give it a 2in lift with some new springs/shocks. upgrade the wheel hubs to match the Hilux ...add same wheels/tyres as Hilux and get a DO35 hitch...there's always else that needs doing! Lol

How did the camper hold up to the heavy rain?
@4X4CA

Not bad, considering the down pour at that camp and the next two campsite! there were some drips coming through so I think it needs a spray with a sealer
