Mead makes you appreciate every bite, because every one is that much more significant than on a typical bass lake. If you get on a bite at Mead, you're doing something right . . . rarely will you just 'Luck On' to a bite. You're right . . . the energy there is incredible . . . and the lunar landscape is something that must be seen. Word to the wise . . . use caution if you fish Mead in the hot summer months . . . make sure all your gear is dialed, and have plenty of hydration. It can get 120+ degrees, and help is a LONG way away. Cell phone coverage is very unreliable as well. And don't let the Lake fool You . . . it can get downright NASTY and fast . . . when the monsoon winds pick , up seeking shelter in a cove is often the best choice versus trying to brave it back to the ramp.. I've pulled up on people mid-lake where the only thing floating was them and the cushions of their boat which had just sank (true story). . . . Mead is no joke.

Actually, many people saw this coming. Cadillac Desert, the definitive examination of the water crisis along the Colorado and elsewhere in the west, was published in *1986*. It was assigned reading at my high school.

The lakes on the Colorado River were built to accommodate the water needs of 15 million people. Today, over 40 million rely on them for water. It's not global warming, seasonal changes or drought. It's too many people depending on a watershed that could never support the needs of 40 million people over the long haul.

Water level gone down roughly 4 to 6 feet, which probably more by end of summer. Saw video last week showing the famous vertical boat which is still submerged but few more feet it’ll break the surface again. In fact there is a new second vertical boat which was actually laying flat until raising levels caused it to float vertical for awhile, motor/props stuck in the mud. Won’t really know how stable it’ll be until the level goes down enough again.

90% of a lake's volume is typically in the top 10% of the water level. So a level this low is more alarming than you might think.

Why are we even assuming that the lake should be able to supply the water needs for millions of people? It’s a freaking desert and a manmade lake. We built it during a period of unprecedented precipitation and now we are going to act alarmed because the water isn’t meeting our needs.

There's 16 reactors in Utah and they supply lake Mead and salt lake with fresh water!!!the 2001 energy act shut down the nuclear reactors!!!

Thank goodness for where I live (TN River Valley) and the good work of the TVA managing the TN River system. You just had to get the climate change plug mentioned. That gets blamed for most everything that is an issue these days.

I saw a report about how much water they divert to private causes. Some housing development bribed local officials to keep their private lake filled by any means. Also lots of extra water sent to Cali to support the Almond farms. As long corporations continue to run this country this is what we can expect. Vegas dtech and Sin City outdoors cover it well!

Las Vegas installed a deep water pickup a few years ago. As long as there is water in it, Las Vegas will have water. And there are still at least 4 boat ramps open on Mead. Callville, Temple Bar and Echo Bay are only 1-2 lanes but you can launch a boat there. Las Vegas Marina I think still has 4 lanes available. But the fishing is just terrible. Stay away. There are a few of us that will take it for the team and suffer through it for the rest of you.

The mismanagement of water in this basin, upstream and downstream, is reckless and grossly irresponsible but this business of a regional drought is propaganda. Going back almost 50 years, there was a time they used to control the water flow out of the dam. Now it is basically wide open almost all of the time. Last year they began pumping water out of lakes and reservoirs upstream in the drainage basin and dumping it onto the ground. The "drought" is manufactured.

I grew up fishing Mead. Beautiful lake and land. My Dad and I fished a spot and saw a heard of Big Horn Sheep scale a cliff to come down for a drink. Fishing was never great, but peaceful and scenic. It is shame what BLM has allowed to happen.

I wish California would quit approving/building all these 1,000 home housing tracts! You should see the 10 miles area within and around Diamond Valley Lake. It's just plain stupid. What use to be a nice 10-12 mile drive on an open road is now a good hour commute of stop lights and stupid people.

massive population,more swimming pools per capita than any place in the country,I know people that have pools that hold 30k gallons,can't drink it,nothing to do with the climate,even the insane governor has a pool,over population,limited water.
