Ohrid local here. First and foremost I really enjoy your videos and I'm glad you had a good time here in Ohrid. I love my hometown and Lake Ohrid is something I can't live without. I don't get homesick, I get lake sick. Just looking at it can make you feel tranquil and at ease. In the summer it's literally your best friend. When it gets hot, just jump right in and cool off. It has its own unique "personality" which varies every season. For us locals, and to many other people, Lake Ohrid is our pride and joy. In the off-season, it looks crystal clear and magical. Especially now with the pandemic going on, not many people can go out on the lake and enjoy themselves. All of this leads me to an issue that I would like to address to everyone visiting Lake Ohrid and to us locals as well. As with any landmark, whether historical or otherwise, preservation is of the utmost importance. Ohrid is a lovely town that primarily sustains itself on tourism. We love and welcome people from everywhere and we always want to show off with our precious lake. I urge everyone who visits to clean up after themselves, take care of the environment, and take care of Lake Ohrid. We all must put in the collective effort to take care of our heritage sites. They represent who we are, and our care for them defines us. I consider myself very lucky to be born in a town that has so much history and tradition, but what I value the most is being born in a town that has a beautifully stunning lake at its front. Next time, make sure to come in the summer and go for a swim! :) P.S Do not drink the water straight from the lake! 😂

The legend of the love of the Bulgarian King Samuel and Bilyana, a Bulgarian beauty from the Macedonian region. A true story of a true love! In the song is sung: „Биляна платно белеше на Охридските извори. Отдолу идат винари, винари белоградяни.” Link to the song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnPZnGekitV8lZY The beautiful Bulgarian folk song from Macedonian region meets for the first time in the collection of the Miladinovi brothers, says the folklorist Prof. Iliya Manolov. And the Bilyanа's springs (2 km from the center of Ohrid, now in North Macedonia), still tell the legend of love between King Samuel and Bilyana, the beautiful girl to this day. The writer Asya Socratova recalls the legend in the trilogy of Dimitar Talev about King Samuel. The girl Bilyana, the heroine of Dimitar Talev from the novel "Tsar Samuel", is the daughter of Bogomila Damyan. Legend has it that she meets and falls in love with Samuel. He takes her to the newly built by him town of Prespa. There, Bilyana lives in a house on the island and becomes pregnant by the King of Bulgaria, blessing him with a wonderful boy named David. Today, the Bilyan Springs are one of the biggest attractions in Ohrid, North Macedonia. They are located 2 km. from the city center. Their water has healing power. According to the rumor, the person that steps on one of the stones and rotates three times clockwise, it will rejuvenate by 10 years. To this day, the local tour guides talk about the love of King Samuel and the girl Bilyana. According to legend, they met right near the springs. And King Samuel is the same King of ours, for whom the Byzantine historian from the XI century John Skilitsa says that he was belligerent, unable to stand calm, and the Byzantine poet of the X century John Geometer likens him to a comet and a terrible whirlwind that burns everything In front of him. This is the same Samuel for whom more than a thousand years after the 6th of October, we Bulgarians, we cannot swallow the lump in our throats because of the king, who, muddy in bloody battles, he could not stand the tragic horrible picture of the thousands blinded Bulgarian soldiers by the army of the Byzantine emperor Vasily the Second, who remained in the world history with the nickname "Bulgarian slayer". By order of the Byzantine emperor, the captured Bulgarian warriors were blinded, leaving one warrior with one eye on each hundred to lead them back home! When he sees his blinded warriors, King Samuel's heart stops and he falls to the ground dead. King Samuel remains in history as one of the greatest Bulgarian rulers, waging constant battles for supremacy with Byzantium, which continued throughout his reign until his death, which caused the sunset of the first Bulgarian empire and the hegemony of Byzantium in the whole Balkan region. Reminder: A true Macedonian nation doesn't exist! All Slavic people from Macedonian region were simply Bulgarians. Everything is described in detail in the thick books of Bulgarian and world historians so, any manipulations and fake interpretation of Bulgarian history are absolutely unacceptable! PS: The great English playwright and novelist, Somerset Maugham had said: "Finally, after all bad the sun still rises." God bless all Bulgarians in the motherland and North Macedonia! since 681☦️🦁🇧🇬 СЛАВА

@@ilmacedone7439 , I'm sorry, but your questions are weird!?! 1) Bulgarians and Macedonians are one and the same thing, if we talk about Orthodox Christians of course! I'm talking about the whole region, not the creation of the Comintern called the Socialist Federal Republic of Macedonia from August 12, 1944! The Titoist roots of pseudo Macedonians Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZy1i62vZ7Gsirc PS: I answered you directly and very accurately!

Europe is marvellous -- at least, the little I've seen of it is marvellous. But how long does it take you to learn all your flags? I can't seem to keep Hungary and Bulgaria straight. Same with Poland and Monaco. Slovakia and Slovenia. It's confusing! Switzerland, though, is very distinctive. And there's no mistaking Croatia's chequerboard. Over here, we stuck a big red leaf smack-dab in the middle, and that was that. It's easy to spot in a line-up. But maybe we've got a low IQ for subtle flag differences?

@Martin M. The name Bulgaria is derived from the Bulgars, a tribe of Turkic origin that founded the First Bulgarian Empire. Their name is not completely understood and is difficult to trace back earlier than the 4th century AD,[10] but it is possibly derived from the Proto-Turkic word bulģha ("to mix", "shake", "stir") and its derivative bulgak ("revolt", "disorder").[11] The meaning may be further extended to "rebel", "incite" or "produce a state of disorder", and so, in the derivative, the "disturbers".[12][13][14] Tribal groups in Inner Asia with phonologically close names were frequently described in similar terms, as the Buluoji, a component of the "Five Barbarian" groups, which during the 4th century were portrayed as both: a "mixed race" and "troublemakers".[15]

Ohrid is in southwest Macedonia not "north" Macedonia. Bollocks to what the fifth columnist regime in Skopje and its western handlers say. Saying Ohrid is "north" Macedonia after knowing it for 46 years of my life as "zapadna Makedonija" (western Macedonia), particularly before the 2000s when western tourism in Macedonia was virtually non-existent and people couldn't mark Macedonia on a map let alone know where Ohrid is, suddenly sounds degenerate,

It’s so funny when you see some people calling themselves Macedonians cherishing as they were in their own city, when their own country pops out on the late 40, created by the Jugoslavi leader Tito. Half of Macedonia is Albanian and half of it Serbians and Bulgarian. In a very short future they will split this fake pride. Even their capital speaks more Albanian than Macedonian or every other slav country you wanna name. Just stop with this hypocrisy.
