I had a grade school teacher who use to play this and a lot of 60's rock/folk music while we were working on assignments. This was one of those songs, and I love it now like I loved it then. It's GREAT BEING FROM CHICAGO...this song is about HOME!!!!! "...back at that same ol' place...SWEET HOME CHICAGO!!!!!"

Lots of Nice Nits, and Riffs in this Song and it's Fun to listen to, especially if you've ever been on LSD and near the Lake Michigan and the Museums! Ditto!

Simply...a classic Chicago song about a classic Chicago landmark. Loved it since I was a kid. That piano rift sticks in your head for the rest of your life.

I left Chicago 11 years ago. When I'm homesick, I cue up You Tube and play this song. Drove this stretch many times just for the hell of it.

Jim and I would go down to Old Town at least once a week and listen to Bonnie Koloc and Steve Goodman and all the others at the Earle Of Old Town Tap. Those were certainly good times and wonderful memories. Nothing like my good old Chicago

I opened this video with the idea of sharing "Hey, there was actually a song written about Lake Shore Drive where the artists were accused of promoting LSD" ... then 5 seconds in I said "Well, so much for that great idea!" :)

When I was at the Art Instirute back in the mid 70's, I lived with my mom just north of Hollywood and Thorndale. Then she remarried and moved to 1150 LSD at the corner of Oak Street. Great time to be alive...

Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

My man didn't even get a ticket filming this. In the early 70's when this song and The Lincoln Park Pirates came out I lived on Belmont just a couple of blocks from LSD and every day I would walk or ride my bike to the lake through the underpass below LSD.

I'm glad you did this. I used to take Lake Shore Drive to work and back every day - Then 20 years ago I got a "B" pickup truck which isn't allowed, and I haven't been on Lake Shore Drive since and I miss it. But seeing this, I guess I forgot about all the traffic jams! They're worse than I remember.

@zlaxfishnetwork you did a GREAT job on this, honestly, the color is great....I'd just like to see more lake and river maybe in your next updated video when you get the new skyscrapers that hopefully will be finished, like the Chicago Spire in a few years!!! thanks!

We were going out to Midway and back north, so we did not make it to south lakeshore. Good idea for a follow-up video though.

LSD starts at Hollywood, 5700 north, and goes to 67th on the south side. Ridges are the high rises north of Hollywood we also called the Canyon. Ratso"s was a popular restaurant on Lincoln Ave and Fullerton owned by a guy name Ratso. There were radio stations In Iowa who wouldn't play the song because they refused to believe there was a street called LSD. I made many a late night trip on LSD both directions and have some wonderful memories of those rides. For those who never have, start at Hollywood, at night, and go the full route. Summer is best, it's worth the trip.

Actually, they have at least two albums: Lake Shore Drive(LSD) and Slippin' Away. Both are great. Where this song gives you an aural picture of what you see on this clip, a song on the other album (Keeper of the Tolls) does the same for I 294.

@geckoisgiko L.A. is just like the 1960s song by Dionne Warwick.... she sang: "LA is a great big freeway, put a hundred down and buy a car" LA is just a giant suburb, until 1983 Chicago had the 2nd largest population, and then the LA city and county council to add all the suburbs and towns, even the San Fernando Valley "The Valley" into its city area and the population from the other towns/suburbs made the population jump almost a million, so then it overtook Chicago as the # 2 most populated

I was on LSD this past summer and it appeared that traffic does move this fast in real time . I was doing 15 over the limit and I was still getting past up as if I was doing 5 -10 below the posted speed limit ( 45 mph summer 35 mph winter or 0 mph last week lol)
@tellthetruthoryour14 жыл бұрын
@BRIGHTBRIGHTLIGHT I agree, video showed too much of the backs of cars and license, not any lake at all and only 2 seconds of the river. and it went back and forth across downtown and the north side...they should have filmed it from the passenger side in the far right lane from Hollywood all the way past downtown, that way there would have been more scenes that weren't blocked by other cars and I think they were paranoid about pointing the camera at other cars to get the view, which I understand

Sooo... Lake Shore Drive goes so much further south than the McCormick Place. Like 50 more blocks (approx 6 miles). Beautiful open park land and little to no traffic. OH and there's that HISTORICAL building called The Museum of Science and Industry at the south end. More high rises and a huge park at the very end. Guess this was about the north side of LSD. *shrugs*

I have always enjoyed Lake Shore Drive. LSD is considered a boulevard, and silly Illinois classifies a pickup truck as a TRUCK which are not allowed. However, by adding a cap to the back of the pickup it becomes an RV, and is allowed. Go figure.

I'd give you a higher rating if you'd shown more of "The Lake" than 3 seconds and a speck of blue/green when you were going north of the river. Get an SUV!Did you have a short camera-person or were they more interested in filming the back of cars and license plates than the lake or the river.. I mean, I'm not being a bitch, but the road is called "Lake" shore drive, and the song....is also. Maybe redo it or splice in some LAke and River shots into it and get away from all the damn cars in it!
