Great video. What is the device between the rails and running perpendicular to the tracks at 5:31?
@HuronRailProductions8 ай бұрын
Thanks, that is a defect detector your talking about. Pretty much it can read if there’s any hot wheels or if anything on the train is dragging. After the train passes it’ll make a transmission over the RR’s radio frequency and the engineer can hear the automated voice telling them the train length, temperature outside, if there’s any defects and a few other things.

How long has the Lake State Railway been in operation?
@HuronRailProductions8 ай бұрын
They were formed in 1992. It was previously the Detroit and Mackinac Railroad.

That was quite an interesting video. The shower of sparks and sound of the train groaning was great. Glad they got her running again. Good job man.👍

Wow that was interesting! Must have been going up a grade and too much weight for those poor engines! They sounded like they were really laboring. Good catch with the video!

It rained a bit prior so I think slippery rails are what gave this one a hard time. Atleast it got going again.

Im suprised that isnt more common in that spot. Ive never seen that happen
@HuronRailProductions9 ай бұрын
They usually pull hard through here but it isn’t often it stalls out. This is probably the 4th or 5th time I’ve seen it happen here ever
@kevinmielke42969 ай бұрын
Damn that's crazy never seen that happen when I watched them in that area. I caught a 101 car train fully loaded with 3 GP40s never stalled on that hill. Must of have something to do with it being mother and slug units.
@HuronRailProductions9 ай бұрын
I’d guess your correct, a handful a times now the slugs have stalled out on this hill and the 4304 set got burned up twice a few years ago by this same hill. The GP’s I don’t think I’ve ever seen stall here.

Great video MRP and I think I'd use a DPU either mid train or at the other end to prevent stalling out. And for the engineer to continue throwing sparks in the same spot is bad for the rails. I'm sure that left an indentation that will eventually cause the top to separate. Cheers from Laurel, Delaware USA.

Thanks, these slug set locomotives can be a little underpowered on heavy trains or if the rails are slippery. But they got back going again so that’s what matters

Is Ossineke the only place they go fast on the alpena branch?
@HuronRailProductions9 ай бұрын
Currently Ossineke, Oscoda, South of Tawas, National City, Turner, Twining, and Omer are all towns they have upgraded track at to run at speed
@EmmettLoveReal9 ай бұрын
@@HuronRailProductions do you know what the speed limit is?
@HuronRailProductions9 ай бұрын
Most of them are 25mph but I believe around Omer there’s a spot they get up to 40 now. I was reading a newsletter on the lsrc website and they said they got 6 miles of track on the Alpena line up to 40mph. The rest is 25 mph and 10mph

I'm sure the folks at the grade crossing were thrilled with the show. The whole thing is tough on the locomotive the wheels the rail. I can't even chalk it up as overloaded cars which happens with frequency. Also with the underpowered chances are because of the slug in this bad weather and perhaps the Sanders not working in this rain

Yeah a lot of times they’d have to back down the hill and get a running start at it. Although I’ve read that slug sets tend to be a bit underpowered in certain situations but idk.
