There are two signals that are on display at Lapeer Agency in Lapeer, Michigan that are of a similar setup to the old Cantilever Signal. I actually managed to knock on one of the bells to make it ring today and it sounds like the bell that you just threw a rock at.

There was an out of service crossing that was still active on the GLC in Ithaca, MI., but it has been long gone now. It would've been located right next to ZFS Ithaca, a large grain elevator.

Nice, and I do know which one you're talking about, I saw it before, but it is a shame that it's gone now

Pretty interesting looking and rare crossing and that mechanical bell sounds like an RRS
@damon810railfan4 ай бұрын
Thx. And yes, I did later find out that the bell is an RRS mechanical bell

A railroad crossing to nowhere! That is so cool! Great tour Damon.

Thx. I never thought this was still here well after the road removal, but I guess it was lol

My understanding is that crossing equipment is sometimes kept in place in locations where reactivation of tracks/crossings is considered possible, as once the equipment is removed, reactivating the crossing would require costly studies/design/permitting/etc. as if the crossing had never existed before.

This is a very interesting crossing how its a closed off road. These signals are really nice too. Especially the first one with the bell. I have never seen a cantilever like that one before. Must be super rare. Nice tour!

Thx. And yeah, those old GRS cantilevers are hard to come by, and the RRS mechanical bell was a nice bonus

Their are a few other crossings in Michigan that have those unique cantilevers.
@damon810railfan4 ай бұрын
yep there is, like the ones in Lansing I mentioned in the beginning, and there's a handful more along another HESR Subdivision around the northwest side of Saginaw, but I figured I'd check this one out first due to the road not existing lol

How is the RRs mechanical on the side without falling off
@EthanRailStudios5 ай бұрын
4:51 if I were to guess maybe a RACO or Griswold M bell, thats just an educated guess
@damon810railfan4 ай бұрын
Yeah, although I later found out that the outer signal has been a replacement for what i assume a similar cantilever signal as the first, hence why it has no bell
@EthanRailStudios4 ай бұрын
@@damon810railfan Ah that makes sense, then that new cantilever that replaced it must had been used in the past
@missiondemolition5 ай бұрын
I think the bell is a WRRS/RRS mechanical bell.

fair point, lol Although I did later find out that the opposing signal did replace another one of those old cantilevers, sometime around the 70's I assume, or maybe even later, since that cantilever was probably re-used from somewhere and it never had a bell to begin with

Dude, stop zooming in and out so quickly. you zoomed in on the cool old lights up top and about the time I was looking at them you zoomed back out and walked away. I had to go back and stop the video to see it. Slow down man. Great information, but slow down. zoom in and hold for a few seconds so we can actually see what your talking about! :) This is so cool though for sure.
