Yeah, that new bait in crawfish color would be much better, I bet. Hard to beat a tube, though. Shad raps worked well for us, too, and the bycatch was big walleyes, northern and even the odd Muskie. Loving this trip and it makes me want to travel 15 hours to get some!

Always love this series LFG. I get back from my yearly Canada walleye trip with my dad the beginning of June every year. Looks like you guys do much better in Ontario than we do. We had a really slow year this year.

I am one of the 5% bass addicts on rainy. There’s a lot of 4 to 5 lb fish. The north end and area you fished isn’t a big fish area. Gotta travel on a 40-50min boat ride to the biggins. There’s a few more lakes that feed into rainy that’s polluted With trophy smallies too. You should check out lake despair lodge or the weather station on manitou for another trip spot.

Something I learned using a craw imitation that had float chambers in the claws is: the smallies would hit it hard and I’d try to set the hook and reel it in to find it only had one pincer remaining. I figured out to. Wait till they his it the 3rd time, as they were plucking the claws off and then gulping down the body. Blew my mind, but I guess it makes since ( who wants to be pinched by a craw)

Why dont you do a catch n cook with the smallies? I suggest a beer batter or a lays original and saltine crushed in a bag with rolling pin to a fin powder. very little lawreys season salt(cause potatoe chips are the saltiest) black pepper. Simple seasonings with bass you dont want to draw out the wrong flavors. They should melt in your mouth by the clumpful and let you know your eating a flavorful fish. Mmmm mouth watering. Deff not a largemouth. Doesnt even compare. Good camp fish. Do not eat with walleye unless starving. Hope you brought alot of taters to slice and fry in veg oil every meal.
