Medium or medium heavy 6ft 1 piece spinning rod, 3000 size reel, 10lb sufix elite. You'll never need another setup regardless of bait type you're using or heavy cover. I snag all the freaking time, and have caught several types/ weights of fish but still have yet to break the line or lose a lure one single time, ever. Stop overcomplicating things people.

That's pretty much what I set up for bank fishing or canoe fishing my swampy creek. I bought a Shakespeare Pro Lite Medium Heavy 6ft rod and a Daiwa Regal 3000 spinner but went with 10lb braid. I love the way it fishes the lures I use and it's plenty stout enough to rig up for catfish if I want to. I do take a 5'6 ultra light with mono for blue gill and crappie but there's probably around $175 invested in my rigs and that covers just about everything.

I spend all summer doing exactly that: frogging mats. I started using soft plastic toads(zman black goat toadz) this year for the first time with that gama G-finesse hybrid hook and I never lose fish and can drag them through the slop without bending out a 4-0. I'm very reluctant to try a hollow body again after how successful these toads have been. Flukes used as topwater/subsurface is another summer favorite. Thank you for the recommendations and ideas, they really help me build a solid tackle bag.

@@joecuillo5005 Yeah it's great to have both tools on hand. If you are in marshy areas with duckweed mats, the toad is easy for the fish to track there too. My top three where I bank fish are 1) the silver/blue chug bug, 2) swimming a cotton cordell spoon just under the surface, and 3) having some white flukes on hand when the largemouth get really aggressive (just be ready when the fluke hits the water). I catch numerous bass with these lures, and in the last week, three of the largemouth landed were 4+ lbs. One 3 pounder blew up the chug bug about 5 times on a single retrieve before grabbing it.

Used spoons from the bank also....but the last 7 or so years I've gone to the "blade bait" and I believe Cordell makes one....I'm not talking about a "bladed spinner bait" but it's shaped just like a shad and the vibration and reflection of the sun make it lethal...have caught everything on it and has become my "go to" when fishing is tough. You can work it on the bottom or close to the surface and even jig it vertically just like a spoon

I have banked fished several times with success. I now am blessed, my wife bought me a new Ranger rig that I love. I am here in south central Florida with a lot of lakes around me. My PB is 11.8 pounds. Several 10 pounders. I have had several bites on a Zoom 7 inch June Bug. Either fast or slow, it really works for me. I buy a lot of "smelly Jelly". That stinking pink stuff really works. It is around $9.00 per jar. I get it from Tackle Warehouse. I order 6 jars in order to have no shipping cost. 1 jar will last me about a year. I like your frogs the other crank bait. I know they work but I go out in the boat only a couple hours in the morning and come home. I am retired so I go when I want. I love to watch my bass swim off after the catch. I give them a kiss and thank them for the fight. I just love it. I watch a lot of tournament fishing but I don't ever fish them myself. I don't want any pressure at all. If they are not biting that morning that is just tough. I'll fish the next morning. I love being on the water. I am thankful to the good Lord for giving me the health and the chance to chase those beautiful green creatures.

Great lures but that first fish was no 3lbs at all . The Yomamoto green pumpkin is the best plastic worm to use hands down. It’s literally the #1 seller . I guarantee u will catch fish with that lure every time

Most of the time if nothing is working and I've thrown the whole tackle box, I will switch to the Ned Rig and start snatching jaws. Almost every time. It's my last ditch effort due to the snag probability, but it's money.
