In reality, it's the scheme they run that's more important. Jaxson is good in this Lakers scheme. If we're trying to run schemes similar to Denver against Denver, we're going to get annihilated in the front court. But we run a different style of defensive and offensive schemes that don't require a dominant big man like prime Dwight Howard, for example. There are multiple ways to win, and I'm sure Denver losing 18 games didn't happen 1 way. I agree that getting another big will help. A championship vet like Javale, I wouldn't be mad at either.

@@Illtechnica I agree. After we got swept in 2023, we didn’t do anything to upgrade our roster. So we got destroyed again in 2024. This time around, we have a better team. Combine that with Denver losing KCP and we should beat them this year.

For what I’ve seen the last couple of games the lakers should continue to invest on small ball and get bamba, Luka with a lob threat worked in Dallas but the lakers won’t be able to mimic their system because they have 2 lob threats that can switch, the last part is the most important, they can switch on defense, that’s why live and gaff are so interchangeable and dynamic the only hole they have is the lack of a 3 point shot. With the lakers if the 2 choices are keep playing small ball or pushing hard for the below average bigs in the market… I would put all my chips on small ball and just get mamba who can switch on defense and totally fits on a small ball offense. It’s an offensive heavy lineup already so you might as well double down on it, use it as a case study and do the full construction of the team next off season.

When free agency came and went we were all doom and gloom because we were running it back. So many believed we would be a play in team. Yet here we are at the 5th seed. In the summer and even last year as everyone was thinking the worst. I had the same thought i always do "WE. DON'T. KNOW." We just never know what will happen until is happens. Analyst try to predict who will succeed and who will fail. So many said this teams like the Kings, Spurs, Pels would improve and that others like Clippers, Mavs, Suns, Wolves would be right up there at the top, none of that happened. The reality is we simply do not know what can and will happen. I haven't this at peace as a Lakers in over 10 years. I for one excited for whatever happens and I'm gonna appreciate every moment of it.

Trev, I think the real problem was that the Lakers front office realized that they were giving up too much and losing the steal of the draft "Dalton Knecht" for an injury plagued and injury prone center which they just got finished dealing with having AD. They realized that would be a big mistake and a big loss to make for a new center headache. A player of lesser value than AD would not be worth the headache. What they gave up was much more valuable.

I'm looking at Claxton, Duren, Kessler, Turner, Naz, Portis, and Williams (if they want to revisit the trade in an amended version) for bigs in the summer. Should all be somewhat getable considering contract size and earlier trade rumors. All good-great rebounders. All of them (mostly) fits with Luka's timeline. Since no team has actual cap space this summer I expect to see some sign-and-trades and that could very will mean that all of these players are available.

I'd be willing to move Koloko up to a regular roster spot. But I think it would be best to proactively search for a more serviceable big wherever we can to show our present and future superstar Luka that the FO will always be seriously committed to provide him the best possible team worthy of leading towards a legitimate shot at a title run.

With all the immediate possibilities that you mentioned, Dwight is the best prospect, he's still strong, he obviously can stay with Jokic in terms of foot speed, & he can still alter shots & CATCH LOBS & rebound, especially against non-jumpung centers like Zu, Jokic & a few others, Koloko can also fit some of those needs, except the strength part. Kelly Olynicks name shouldn't mentioned if the topic is lob threat & blocks.

Koloko has been decent in spot minutes and he looks good in the g league. Jemison needs some work but he's sturdy which is what we need. I say sign both and give the young guys a chance. Koloko and Hayes can be lob threats and shot blockers, jemison can take some fouls/screens. We might need to bring in a veteran C still to stabilize the group.

In the very short term, in the "here and now", my question is: "Is this outstanding "team D" that the Lakers have been playing, lately, something we will continue to see on a consistent basis?" We are about to get an answer to that question over the next few weeks but if the Lakers can continue to play very solid "team D," obviously that would be huge. However, I'm not suggesting that the Lakers don't need to explore all options in upgrading the Center position.

And from what I’ve seen Trey Jemison looks mobile and he’s 260. So he’s got a good frame. This is what they have to do to give themselves a chance. Cut reddish and wood. Jaxon Hayes will be break glass in case of emergency use as a big. He’s the third string guy.

It's also the downside of a hard salary cap. Not being able to get a player you need because you are restricted from doing so. This is why the MLB Players and Players Union don't want ANY hard salary caps. It restricts the players earning power and a team can't do what it needs to do to help itself in cases like this.
