If this roster was 100% healthy, they'd be good enough to contend for the West maybe Bron K4 DFS AD Wood, Reaves Max Cam Vando Rui is a solid 10 man lineup to me. But if you can flip Rui, Gabe, Cam & Hayes for Jerami Grant & RWIII even better Bron K4 DFS AD Wood, Reaves Max Vando Grant RWIII. Monster defenders off the bench & 2 in the starting lineup. The Lakers could definitely win the chip with this lineup

I think so too. Me personally I would start Christian Wood when he's healthy because he plays well on both ends of the floor with AD next to him, DFS will be there to help as well. Then Rui would be my backup C (that can't rebound 😭😭). I still would try to trade Rui, Gabe, Hayes & Cam for Jerami Grant & RWIII. Bron K4 DFS AD Wood would be my starters, Reaves Max Vando Grant RWIII as my 2nd unit. Closing lineup Bron Reaves DFS AD Wood & if I need 1 possession for a defensive stop, I'm going DFS Vando Wood/Cam AD RWIII

Looking at the language around Rui, it’s as if you can’t start him (“needs to play the 4;” “not good for perimeter defense;” “bench needs scoring”), and as if you can’t bench him (“what about his confidence;” “he wants to start;” “how will benching affect his game”). Well the math isn’t good on any significant moves if Lakers make another one. It’s also not good if the language above proves to be true. DFS should start, Rui may be (probably will be) fine coming off the bench but DFS makes the most sense to start either way.

@@JX9917 rui’s defensive rating is only higher because of his matchups. He has more favorable matchups because he has AD there for help when at the 4. If player A is posting up rui and see’s AD on the help and player a passes out thats a positive for rui in the metrics for defense. Its not his fault of course and thats what we want, but one on one defense. Individual defense without any help is a disaster. When he is switching (which isn’t often because we play drop coerage alot) on guards they take fry him time and time again.

When the ego of a player is the worry, that's when the coach needs to come in and help them understand that the best possible thing for them is that they're in the best possible position to be the best they can be. For Rui, that's coming off the bench as a scoring punch. The Lakers need what DFS brings in the starting lineup. The guy can give you the scoring that Rui brings, but also brings the defense that Rui doesn't, so it's a win win. JJ should look to Steve Kerr for this type of leadership as he's done a great job over the years of managing egos.
