I have the exact same fan. When I bought it used, it worked fine until I brought it home. It will randomly turn off if you set it up vertically. I messed with the thermo switch and it does not click like yours does. You have to move the fan horizontally (fan facing up) to get it to turn on again. Very annoying, I think it's the thermo switch so I'm gonna try to take it apart to see what's wrong. Ended up buying an old dayton 18 inch floor fan in case the lakewood is a goner.

No, I don't see the allen keys anywhere. If only this was a livestream or something lol. How strange that they would bypass the thermometer, doesn't the fan just stay on always if you turn the thermostat all the way up? Maybe they always mistook it as the speed switch and were getting annoyed at the fan turning off, but still, I wouldn't find that to warrant rewiring the fan...
@JordanU6 жыл бұрын
I really have no idea what happened to the Allen keys.. I still haven't found them.. I'm not sure why they would have done that, unless they needed it to run in extreme temperatures.. The thermostat doesn't seem to cut the fan off at much above 75 or 80 degrees.. Or perhaps there's something wrong with the thermostat that I'll discover the first time I use the fan for an extended period of time..

YOU NEED TO GET A HEAT GUN BLAH BLAH BLAH!! :P But seriously. Great job. I need to learn how to solder myself. I still dont get why they cut the wires to the Thermostat. Very odd.

Hey Tory, if you need any help with learning soldering or have questions I may be able to assist, I've learned recently and have been doing pretty well with it.
@JordanU6 жыл бұрын
No, you need a heat gun! Soldering is definitely worth learning.. You probably won't use it often, but when the need for it arises it's great to have.. The equipment is cheap too, the iron in the video only costs about 15 dollars.. I'm wondering if perhaps there's something wrong with the thermostat that I'll discover when I have the fan running for a while.. Hopefully not....

@JordanU4 жыл бұрын
What is the failure mode of the motor? You'll need to get it repaired, these haven't been made for years.
@jaykay186 жыл бұрын
I've got a few things to say here: 1. You might consider renaming the video to "Lakewood HV-21T THERMOSTAT Repair", or "Lakewood HV-21T WIRING Repair", or even "Lakewood HV-21T THERMOSTAT WIRING Repair" 2. I've never seen anybody tin wires like that. Not saying it didn't work, just never seen that "technique" if you can call it that. 3. I would never trust the solder job on that wire. It's just "tacked" really. That's fine for cordless phone receiver capsule/speaker connections and battery terminal connections. For something like this, with a larger wire that is carrying much higher current, a mechanical wire connection is really required. Yes, it's not going anywhere, and nobody's touching it, but there could be 120 volts going through that, which might break free and short to the cage. Unlikely, but could happen. Instead, I would have done what's called a "Western Union" joint, where both wires are stripped, butted up against one another, and then wrapped in opposite directions, intertwining them. Then you have a good mechanical connection, which can then be soldered for an absolute rock solid connection. Otherwise, great job on the repair, I applaud the use of the soldering iron in the first place.
@JordanU6 жыл бұрын
I really didn't think this video would get any 'rude' comments! 1) I thought about those, but the thermostat isn't broken, the wiring isn't broken, nor is the thermostat wiring broken.. I suppose the fan technically wasn't broken either, but it wasn't working as it should and when something doesn't work as it should you repair it, hence I found the current title most fitting.. 2) That's how my grandfather does it, and he's been successfully electrical engineering for quite some time, so I figure it must be a reasonable thing to do.. 3) Perhaps there are 'better' ways to make that connection, I considered using a mechanical crimp but I didn't have any on hand that were small enough.. It's only a 3 amp motor, I can't fathom such a situation as you described occurring unless something went wrong in the motor and it started drawing excessive amounts of current..
@jaykay186 жыл бұрын
While I know you put "rude" in single quotes, I offered constructive criticism, which should always be not only accepted but also appreciated. I'm actually surprised that the motor only pulls 3 amps with the air flow it SOUNDS like it's producing.
