In the book version by the way, Ella's mother tried not to give her orders. She only did it when she felt she had to - like telling Ella not to tell anyone about her curse. They also showed a version of Ella's fifth birthday, when she realized it. In that story, Mandy had said "Eat" when she cut the cake and Ella had become terrified when she realized she had to keep eating until her mother figured out what was going on and told her to stop. Mandy had a tendency to give Ella instructions, which actually inspired her to find ways to get around obeying the orders by doing it in a specific way. She doesn't really learn to do that in the movie - she just sort of orders it. In the book, the way she breaks the curse is to hold out on obeying an order for so long that eventually it just self-destructs.
@JoyfullyShea-Marcella Жыл бұрын
I remember reading that part about the cake in the book. And poor Ella’s stomach started to really hurt from eating too much. Didn’t she break the curse a lot earlier in the book too? I didn’t finish it, but for some reason I’m remembering her breaking the curse pretty early on 🤔
@strawberrysoulforever8336 Жыл бұрын
@@JoyfullyShea-Marcella No, she broke it at the end. Char said "Marry me" after he unintentionally got Ella to admit she loved him, and she held out so long and stopped herself from agreeing to it until the curse was broken and she refused the order. Then she explained about the curse, even though her mother had ordered her to never tell anyone when she was a kid. Then, since her curse was over, she was able to happily marry him.

I'm not saying Ella's mom is bad AT ALL - idk abt their relationship, but I would have made sure my kid didn't feel like she had to obey me. I would have wanted her to choose to obey me (bc she respected me as a mother). Like, phrasing is super important (saying: "can you?" or "will you?" instead of "do this"). It just seems like she could have grown to resent her mother or anyone at all who took advantage of her obedience. Maybe not, but those are my thoughts on this fictitious movie LOL.
