I remember this from back in the day, when a lot of rappers were rapping about black history and pride and all that. Love it, plus it's catchy as hell. Hard to believe Shabazz was only 20 when he made this---his voice made him sound 10 years older.

I was just thinking the same thing. It looks weird at first, but it really blends in with the older footage and draws a subliminal connection between the old civil rights era and hip-hop's Black Power movement. On a side note, man I miss the days when listening to a rapper made you feel a sense of pride in our people. Not all rappers were putting out Afrocentric music, but there was balance in the industry. Being "gangsta" isn't keeping it real; educating and helping our people do better is.

My dad introduced me to this brotha's music and I was an instant fan. Lakim Shabazz was so sick. Criminally underrated. Hearing these old cuts is making me miss the message...the sincere/genuine message. I don't know what these new school pro-black brothas are talkin' about nowadays. Ice Cube said that they couldn't wait to phase political hip hop out so that they could introduce the new agenda... Y'all know what happened to hip hop after they phased this style out in 1994...
