We had similar historical figure in Karnataka. Her name was Akka Mahadevi who was also a great philosopher of 11th Century in Karnataka and she was a beautiful queen but gave up all materialistic comforts in her life and became a saint. She reached the "Vairagya" stage in life and gave up everything in life. Then, She considered God Shiva as her husband and she used to cover her body only with her long hair. She wrote many poems or Vachanas and she earned a great respect from people and influenced the society with her Vachanas. Those Vachanas are still popular among masses in the name of "Akka Mahadevi Vachanas" which are still a great source of knowledge.
