I agree SJ is the best in the Caribbean, it is by far the most complete port, you have so many options, can go to a big mall or shop at tourist shops, you can go to the rainforest, you can go to various beaches, you can go to Condado which is a beach town, you can just walk all day in Old SJ that is one of the prettiest and best kept colonial cities in the hemisphere and on top of that Old SJ is packed with culture and history, plus it is really relaxed and charming

Great to see you in my neighborhood. One of my ancestors (3rd great grandfather) was held as a Political Prisoner in 1887 inside of el Morro. The fort has a lot of meaning for me and sort of inspired my love for History. Whenever you visit again? Feel free to reach out and I will be more than happy to show you a few more historial places. Plus give you tips on some local non for profits doing some pretty cool tours conserving our history and super affordable at the $10 range per person.

@rauljcolon6 ай бұрын
@@renise011 Sure what does your Son like to do?
@renise0116 ай бұрын
@rauljcolon mostly he's looking forward to the beach. He loves building sand stuff and pretending he's the sandman from Spiderman knocking down all the stuff he's built. And I'm sure at least one spiderman toy will make the journey with us to save the day. He likes super heros, dinosaurs and Godzilla. I'd be interested the local non profits doing tours. But really any kid friendly activities. I've seen some hikes to waterfalls that look a bit intense for him. So maybe something beginner friendly.
@rauljcolon6 ай бұрын
@@renise011 If you are coming for a cruise stop for one day and he loves the beach my suggestion would be to take him to Isla Verde Beach which is very close to the port and my daughter’s favorite beach. I use to live on the beach. You tell a cab to take you to Hobbie Beach (takes its name from Hobbie Cats that use to be in the area) in Isla Verde. This beach is also easier to grab a cab or Uber with other places to get a meal, supermarket for any supplies, and even pharmacies. Another option is going to Playa Vacia Talega, this one is more for locals and in the town of Loiza I would say a 25-30 minute drive, the bay there is a bit calmer than Isla Verde. If you want to try some local food on the way to Facia Talega you have Piñones which has some pretty areas to eat. Since it’s August the beaches won’t be as crowded as school starts in early august over here. All beaches in the North are a bit rougher than the south. So please always review water conditions before visiting a beach. But I am sure he could have a great time with his super hero friends at least in the sand. Other options are the Fort el Morro which Tony mentions in the biog. As a kid I loved visiting it and as an adult and a photographer I take my daughter a lot. If you are here for more days I can say you might want to travel around the Island in search for more kid friendly activities. But it seems your son is like my daughter who would choose the beach of everything else.

Tony, there is also a smaller fort on the other side if the harbor which would cause a crossfire. There is a history of 5 battles: the attack on El Morro in 1595 by Sir Francis Drake; a second attack on El Morro and the city by Sir George Clifford, another Englishman, in 1598; a siege of El Morro by the Dutch in 1625; an invasion by 7,000 British troops and 64 warships under the command of General Ralph Abercromby in 1797; and the bombardment of San Juan by the United States Navy on May 12, 1898 during the Spanish-American War.

When you make it on the tour of the fort you can take the princess walk all the way up to the fort and it cuts out alot of time if you wanna make it there quickly. Also some of the restaurants may take reservations if you call ahead but not 100% sure. Glad you enjoyed your visit! I got the best disembark excursion on that trip, he asked our schedule for flights and then took us to a great lunch stop which was not a required part of our excursion. Good plan to enjoy your walking tour and not wishing you hadn't walked that far in the heat and rain. Of course your excursion day wouldn't have been as much fun if you hadn't been with your friend - good planning there too.
