Lamar Parks - Is a former professional boxer from Greenville, South Carolina, USA. He was at one point ranked as the top middleweight contender by both the WBC and IBF. He was forced to retire after testing positive for HIV; a virus which claimed the life of Parks' one-time fiancée. Parks was set to face Gerald McClellan for the WBC Middleweight Title on March 4th, 1994, but the bout was cancelled due to the test results. He would not fight again. After retiring, Parks trained amateurs fighter in his hometown of Greenville, South Carolina. An article about Parks was written in the June/July 1995 issue of POZ magazine titled "Down For The Count."

Lamar was an EXCELLENT boxer puncher. Reggie Johnson said he was the hardest skilled puncher that he ever faced. Lamar was very good.

I did not know he was forced to retired like Tommy Morrison. I read that he didn't inform his girldfriend (now deceased) of his HIV status. No disrespect to him. He seemed so talented. He could have been one of the greats.

Well Reggie was a very good fighter and it was a close fight in my opinion but experience prevailed. If Parks hadn't caught HIV I think he could have gone on to win a title for sure, just needed a little more experience in his fight with Johnson.

You mean he would beat McClellan? He was supposed to challenge him for WBC title in 1994. Parks was good but I don't think he would beat McClellan...
