Watch Andy all the time. He's a sound guy! It is scary taking an engine apart for the first time..it's like gearboxes..seen as a dark art, but it's not that bad.. Putting together is all about attention to detail, being meticulous and clean. When you break it down, it's all very simple steps to build, but just a lot of these steps. Starting an engine you've just built..even partially, for the first time, is another level of nervousness, but so rewarding when it fires up! I've just finished a ford V6 and it's so rewarding to hear it start a few weeks back after a total strip, machining and rebuild. This project just went to 11! It's going to be a stunner! Just in hind sight...would have been cool to get a base line dyno run before the strip down....but you didn't know you would be going this far at the time!

Andy's channel is great. Of course, when he needs a "special tool" he just makes one! I think people who are used to taking engines apart have no idea how daunting and scary it looks to us hammer-wielding knuckle-draggers! 🤣

Brave man! And good progress made. Kudos! I don't know whether you've changed or tensioned your belts before so you may already know this. Those belt pulleys are floating and when you reassemble them you need to align the timing mark on the flange with the marks on the pulley wheel and big washer (with the three screw holes). When tensioning the belts you must also lock the cams in position using the special pins (88713.3152) or home made alternatives. They screw in through the cam end covers and locate in the holes on the outer edges of the camshafts on the left side of the motor. It's also safer if you lock the crankshaft in position too. If you don't want to buy all the special tools and, as we seem to be in the same locale, I have the crank turning and locking tools plus the cam locking pins you can borrow if you need to. Looking forward to the next episode.
