I’d say as long as you can manage (without rambling!) then perhaps ask the examiner if they’d like any further explanation/information/examples?

I have my Grade 6 exam in 2 days and I am really stressing out. I am doing Charlie in school play and Helmer in the dolls house. I really need help because I don't understand the breathing techniques for these pieces.

It depends on the examiner…just each be prepared to answer the question in full and I’m sure they will address you individually breaking up and extending the question 🤞🏻👍🏻

I am glad this was helpful. Be prepared to speak with detail (but don’t waffle! examiners want concise answers but may well prompt / ask for more). And do t panic if they do or don’t ask further questions…sometimes they are honestly interested. I really hope it goes well for you. Good luck!

I often think the breathing question can be hard for grade 6 students…make sure you can explain how you use your breath. And how / when / why you change it to create your character/objective.

This was a great video, thank you! I am doing Grade 7 - will the examiner ask me anything that isn’t those three bullet points? Will they just focus on those or will I need to be prepared for other topics as well (projection, breathing, etc.) Hope this makes sense!

They really should only ask you those questions in the spec. If they ask you more or take them further then you should take it as a good sign and just do your best 👍🏻 I always encourage my students to be as prepared as possible. If you know your plays and characters and their objectives well, understand context, style/period and playwrights you should be all set! Best of luck!

Be able to describe and talk about the writers style and what was happening at that time. Great idea to have/mention other plays the writer has created though (especially if it backs up what you are saying about their style). Hope this helps and best of luck! 🍀

hi, im very confused. My teacher said they will be asking these questions for the grade 8 exam: What is your character(s) objective. What is your character's role within the play as a whole Your understanding of the principles of a key practitioner (Stanislavski). You need to have a knowledge of Given Circumstances, Emotion Memory, The Magic If, Subtext, Tempo-Rhythm, Circles of Attention, Motivation.

My theory was confusing because I mentioned everything magic if… given circumstances… emotional memory everything but I felt like at time I rambled and waffled. Don’t know how she took it to be honest

this was a really helpful video thanks, im doing grade 6 i just wanted to ask do when i perform do i have to use the whole staging like upstage and downstage etc and when talking about breath do i talk about the charcters breath technique or the techniques i added for the character. thanks

So glad this is helpful. Your staging will depend on your piece - don’t just ‘use the stage’ for the sake of it, only if it fits your character’s intentions. And yes talk about the breath in renationalise to how you use it to show the character’s emotions. Good luck!
