Two anonymous pieces on the Gallichone (also called Mandora). The gallichone was popular in the second half of the 18th century but has since been largely overlooked. This instrument is a reproduction made by Stephen Barber and Harris and has 6 courses tuned in D.

I'm a lutenist too, and it inspires me a lot to see that we're not alone, and reading the comments prove that lutenist can be respected as much as.....idk, guitarists, pianists, violinists (so 75% of musicians in the World). So thank you. (And sorry for the language mistakes, I'm french, so forgive me pls !)

Awesome to hear, my friend! You're definitely right, there are more luthiers than we can imagine. And don't apologize for things that don't do no harm. I'm not a native speaker either and when people point out my mistakes or laugh at me, I just tell them that English isn't my mother-tongue and their lips get zipped. lol

Since now im a guitarist arround 3 years and this year im safing up for my first 8 course renaissance lute. Theres nothing more beautiful than a lute, pieces that are written for lutes and these old authentic sounds from it 🥰

You should do videos where you discuss the history of lutes, what it's like to play pieces authentically, how to get into learning the lute, etc. I find the instrument very fascinating

A lute is a class of instruments. A standard guitar that you're familiar with in modern rock music is a lute (a necked box lute, 321.322 in the Hornbostel-Sachs classification system). The lute in this video is a gallichone (a necked bowl lute, 321.321 in the Hornbostel-Sachs classification system).

Short and sweet piece. Lovely. I'd never heard of the Mandora and said to myself: "it looks like a lute, though". Wikipedia tells me it belongs to the lute family so I don't feel too ashamed. Every time I watch one of your videos I dream of having a gifted player in my area to prepare small concerts of arie antiche together.

A colleague lent me the instrument along with a book of facsimiles of 18th century pieces written for the instrument and I was asked to put together a solo set of music for it. I played through the whole book and found pieces that I enjoyed and put them together to form a suite (this video is just two pieces from the larger suite)

@basgerritsen9669
@basgerritsen9669 Күн бұрын
A baroque lute (tuned in d minor) should have at least 11 courses, to be able to play all German and french baroque repertoire you need 13 courses. An 8 course baroque lute would only have the range of a guitar tuned to f. If it's an 8 course renaissance lute it's adequate for playing most renaissance repertoire, but buying a lute online is always a bit risky.
