Hey John, as for your pieces sliding while clamping, if you sprinkle a little table salt on glue joint, the salt will bite in grain and keep it from slipping, though you seem to already have a working method, I’ve been a wood turner for 15 years and a finish carpenter for 28, I got to do a cabinet install in Des Moines Iowa at “The School for the Blind” and I was floored to find that they had a complete wood working shop in basement, so I took a tour, and the gauge they used to measure was a piece of All thread with grooves cut every 1” then it was a matter of turning the nut one full turn for the 1/16 and other desired measurements, I’m happy to have stumbled across a short on FB, keep up the good work!

My great, great uncle was also a blind woodsman. His name was Albert. He lived the end of his life in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. I believe he died in the mid-1970's.
