I remember the exact moment I heard this song. Where I was physically, the period of my life, my emotional state, everything. People talk about certain songs being synonymous with moments or periods of their life but I've never really had that, with the exception of this song and some others. It changed my entire mental state and altered the path I took in life. That seems crazy for what is ultimately just a piece of music at a point in time but such was the impact it had on me in that second, in that moment, in that fleeting flash of the tapestry of my time in this world. I don't listen to it often but I always go back when I need to. Amazing.

My problem with GY!BE is that usually I only like certain fragments or movements of their songs. But when I do, I like them a lot. This their only composition I like as a whole. I wish I could tell people to listen and discover it, but GY!BE is an acquired taste I think.

Learn to perceive the alienating drone passages as a step in the progression of the song towards the climax. That's Godspeed's recipe: slowly build up your sound until it reaches a climax of almost unbearable intensity.
@Swishead7 жыл бұрын
I think if you're introducing people to Godspeed the best track to start with is probably this one or Moya, cos they're not packed with ambient sections, just a lot of beautiful instrumentation everyone can appreciate. The worst one to start a person off on (even though I love it) would be something like 'like antennas to heaven'.

@HurricaneTBag mmm I dont think she sells album just cause is "insanely" talented it's just marketing based on image instead music. I want to listen her sing without a microphone and no effect after that, if it's right what you said, I will say she's talented. I've listened lot her songs and simply I think she sucks. But it's just my opinion so don't be anger.

The great thing about GY!BE is that the original record's production value is so shitty that sometimes their youtube videos are crisper than the actual record.

Really? I always thought the sound quality was pretty good, as well as production, since all the instruments flow separately. On Yanqui, Steve Albini did the production, and everything sounds messy and blended together. Skinny Fists sounds pretty good in my opinion.

@MadSpider1012 You realize that Lady Gaga has four octave vocal range (five if she tries), went to music school, and writes all of her own material right? Her music styles are insane. Listen to Teeth, Hair, Monster, So Happy I Could Die, and You and I. She's insanely talented.

Try a piezo pickup with a parametric eq that lets you look for and kill the FB frequency. I don't like noise gates so much because you'll be able to hear when the effect kicks in vs when it's letting the sound through.

@MadSpider1012 watch?v=83xz20H-hAs Yeah she's pretty talented, to say that she "sucks" but like GY!BE I find that hard to fathom, her music is far more diverse than GY!BE. Don't get me wrong I like GY!BE, but it's a basically a hipster's Porcupine Tree, which is cool I dig Porcupine Tree and I like some hipster music...but it's no where near the diverse collection of Godga's music. Several different styles of pop, industrial, Rock, singer/songwriter, to even metal. She's nuts bro.
