Beleive me Highly Carnaval is great it's all about having fun, unity and gezelligheid. It's such a releive to have a good party each year, with lots of laughter. (which is exactly what this time direly needs)

This is Lamme Frans (drunk Frans) , every year he comes up with An amazing sing and videoclip.(my opinion) Always with that (stuffed) beer That pirate is also from 1 of his video's. In normal life he is a radio DJ on national radio channel 3FM

The dancers you see are traditional and called dansmariekes ( dancing Marys) their clothes are based on military uniforms from Napoleontic time. They march and have a very particular style of dancing mostly on march music. There are championships and the highest level dance groups also do acrobatic stunts like your cheerleaders do.

The red/white blocked flag is the flag of Brabant. Brabant (and Limburg even more) is where carnaval is celebrated like that. Up north is the protestant area, where some carnaval is celebrated, but if you see the red/white blocked flag/shawls, you know you are in Brabant. FijnFisjeNie!

The whole song has multiple references to other carnaval songs (like the friar being from André van Duin's "Bim Bam", and "There's a Horse in the Hall" -you hear a horse neigh) Btw, if you want to party along next year: Be here at Saturday Februari 18th 2023 to Tuesday Februari 21st 2023 (well... There's "3 uurkes vurraf" on the Friday it's a pre-party and could call it an opening, but you need tickets for that one due to limited space) PS, make sure you look ridiculous and smile when you go out during this period and a lot of business' are close during this period in Brabant and Limburg as nearly everyone takes those days off and kids don't have school (no it's NOT official national vacation but (Southern) schools do stick to those (shifting) dates) *Northern (read above the rivers) have different vacation periods as the South (below the rivers) this is setup this way so the roads don't get clogged when vacation starts (only a few highways cross the rivers) as nearly everyone would have to cross Brabant to go South to Belgium, France etc.

I Do like our checkered province (North Brabant) flag. It dates back to the middle ages and in origin it is actually older than de Dutch national flag.

fijnfisjenie... It's self confirming rhetoric. Also called UberLogic or TotalLogic. Shortest way of circlereasoning.. And the 'je' in between is meant to make it acceptable. We do that to everything bad.. Like biertje, cigaretje, jointje... Really, it makes half the difference. As for liking Carneval; that's simple. If you're from Brabant you love it and if your from above the rivers, you pretend it doesn't exists. But since Facebook, everything is different now. Modern Hollanders started seeing Carneval as an opportunity..
