LAMTA SCRTD Spearmint Buses 1963-1975

In 1963 following the loss of streetcar service the LAMTA designed a new bus paint scheme that would be applied to new repaints until coach 5090 became the first RTD "Chrome yellow" repaint circa 1967. The last holdout in the scheme lived on until 1975 when the Spearmint vanished as we knew it.
The scheme named for its resemblance to a pack of Spearmint gum has been given little attention, always overshadowed by the earlier Two-Tone Green scheme.
This video includes photos graciously provided by the legendary 90MAC who himself is "Mr. Spearmint" a title I gave him for his extensive coverage of this paint scheme in his inspirational photography.
This is my first video slide show for youtube and return to my roots as Osiris Press, I plan to do more histories and add more vintage fleet and paint schemes of the cherished transportation photos.

Thee Outer Limits....on a Old GMC......hmmmm......nice pictures especially the first part.I liked the first bus a GM Old Look with the black tint painted standee windows , it kind of make's it look a little like a GM New Look Bus ......interesting.

Similar slideshows of NY buses on my channel (bus playlist). There was a 1960s Bill Cosby show episode where he takes boy scouts on an outing by bus, but the RTD drivers all refuse boarding due to the long hockey sticks. Anybody seen that one around?

While not "official" this type of bus, essentially a bus body version of the 1940s trolley design, is usually referred to as a "GM Old Look" style chassis to distinguish it from the GM "New Look" model that General Motors replaced it with in the late 1960s or early 1970s. I came out to Southern California around 1972, and while I often saw and rode Old Look buses I have to admit I never saw one except in RTD Yellow-Orange.

That New Look/Fishbowl overlapped, actually, with the old look-starting in 1959, with another ten years for the Old Look, till 1969. :)

I remember those busses...loud, clunky and always guaranteed to give you a headache thanks to the exhaust fumes leaking into the passenger compartment. GOD I hated those things....
