I now have three Lamy 2000s in three different nib sizes: M, B and BB. I love all three, but the broad 2k is my favorite writer. It is just sublime. A kind of first among equals of my three pens. In any case, broads, stubs and italics are my most preferred nibs. They form a majority of my present pen collection.

I have a fine and medium Lamy 2000.Truly excellent pens. I only use Lamy inks in them, though, because when I used other inks the ink would pool around the nib.

hm. interesting. I do use all kinds of inks, and never had a real problem

Lovely review / conclusion. I am also a lefty (side writer), and have found that I can happily use B nibs. One thing I did find out that does make a difference, is the paper and sometimes ink combination. I.e. I have bottle of Organics Studio Nitrogen, lovely ink, but as it takes ages to dry I get smudges, but being a lefty (and thus a creative one) I put some blotting paper under my hand and go for it.

Yes, you are absolutely right. The paper/ink combo is definitely crucial

are you ever worried about over-tightening the nib section when screwing it back into the body?
@Scrivelynotes5 ай бұрын
Not more than I would with the cap of any screw on pen. Also, I don't do this procedure very often.

Left handed here, and I only under-write. I used to only write with EF or F and my handwriting was very small and difficult to read (even for myself). I wrote too tiny that I could write on all lines of a page without skipping a line even in tightly lined notebooks. Using a LAMY 2000 B that I got as a Christmas present back in 2019, I realised that I have to write bigger so I can find the different between lowercase C and E for example, I trained myself to write bigger, skip a line and make sure that all closed loops in my writing are empty inside, not completely blacked out... then when I went back to writing with F (I had to abandon EF, you can't get back to that much feedback after the gliding of a Broad LAMY 2000), I found my characters to be much bigger, which made them easier to read and better looking as well. Using fountain pens in general helped me bring more order to the directions letters are written, and Broad nibs particularly helped fix the shape of each letter!

I have been using a Lamy 2000 since 1973, bought in my first year in college. That amazing Makrolon body still looks like new! I am left handed, but unlike you, I am blessed with the ability to hold my pens exactly as a right hander with no cranking around of the wrist. I never have a problem with that hand smearing ink.

I love my Lamy 2000B. I use it daily, but I write large. Eventually I would like to get the BB or OBB. The fine or extra fine would be good at some point too. Nice review.

I have a few Platinum gold broad nibs that are slightly “stubbish” - a characteristic I love. This Lamy 2000, I got a medium….it’s so, so broad. Broader than some broad nibs I have. I like it, but wanted it for something it’s not going to work for….so trying to decide if I need the fine as well. May as well just buy it, I know I’m going to eventually anyway…

What notebook are you using? Anyway, I have a broad nib. I am not a fan of it. It's too thick. I prefer thinner lines. Why I got a broad, I am asking that question still to this day. I am left-handed and wish I went with a fine or extra fine nib.

Im really torn between medium and broad, i am a underwriter and tend to write a little on the large side. I dont know what tondo as from my research wxtra nibs cost a lot.

Take medium

That is a broad for sure 🙂 I wouldn’t have thought it would be very good for lefties who side write. Good review Michael, 🙏🏻 thx. As a random side note - are you still enjoying the Roterfaden? I finally got my own this week after a blue leather SO_20 appeared on Nomadostore 👍🏻 Cheers.

Yepp - paintbrush :) . yes, I do indeed still enjoy my Roterfaden. However, those days I do carry the Aterliers Phileas Yokohama with me (see my recent review).

As a fellow leftie, I also really love broad nibs! I got my Lamy 2000 in medium, though. 😄

Just a little suggestion to Lamy 2000 users who find a bit of difficulty with the nib’s “sweet spot.” The Oblique Medium (OM), Oblique Broad (OB), and Oblique Double Broad (OBB) all write beautifully and do not seem nearly as critical as the traditional nibs regarding the “sweet spot.”

Seems like someone like you with lettering almost needing a binocular microscope to see would naturally gravitate towards the fine nibs. When the height of your letters is the same as the width of the nib it tends not to be as readable. Though I understand you don’t agree. PS: you might try setting up your camera so that it’s shooting from over your right shoulder…instead of perpendicular to your page. Then you could orient your writing more normally as to how the camera sees it. Just a thought.

I'm a leftie, and, in fact, most of my recently purchased fountain pens are broads or stubs
