Yeah the Lamy 2000s tend to be quite wet anyway, which make them write a little more broadly than what size they claim to be lol. Love the wet pens, too! I love watching the ink come out of the nib and pool on the page.

I have 2 black Lamy 2000 pens. One has an F nib and the other has an OM nib. Both write very nicely, OM very buttery and with variable thickness of the curved lines, while the F nib gives a firmer response to contact with the paper and leaves a thinner patina of ink. Because they are of the same color, I don't know which one I take out of the case first, but I write with great pleasure, then I take out the other one and continue my work. I like the writing differences between the two pens so much that I take a white sheet of paper and write all kinds of nonsense just for the pleasure of seeing the two differences. If you ask me, I can't choose between the two... I also have a Lamy rollbar that competes with them, but this is usually for everyday use where I can afford to be more careless with things

I noticed that the ink heavily influences how broad the 2000 writes. With jacque herbin wetter ink, it writes like a broad. But with pelikan thicker ink it writes a true medium.

Thanks for this. I just received my Lamy 2k medium and if feels a little too thick. Seeing videos mentioning “nib creep” have made me aware of the ink I see on the nib after I’ve wiped it off-but since it’s only on the nib-not the pen-I can live with it. I’ll use Q-tip every now and again to blot it up. I actually like the look of the fourth pen over all of them-it might be the darker ink. I think it helps to use same ink in all samples so we can compare 🍎 to 🍎. At the end of the day I feel satisfied with my purchase. 🙏🏾👍🏾

Very useful comparison! I’d love to see more like this. I appreciate other types of reviews, but lots of people do writing samples in all capital bold letters, or writing super large; which is not useful to me as someone who journals in those regular dot grid/grid notebooks within the lines in cursive. I can never tell when someone is writing so large whether the cursive loops get too tight in the M/B nibs I’m interested in.

Thanks for the video. Making the decision between fine and medium now. I do think that the fine is more of a medium and hence a true Western fine. Going to go with that one, I think you would be able to get a nice line for copy paper with Lamy crystal ink and a wetter flow with Iroshizuku and hence more versatile than the medium.
@inkfade4281
@inkfade4281 3 жыл бұрын
The Lamy Crystal ink, in my experience (granted, limited, as I've only tried three), is super wet, so I'd think that might widen the line you're going for a bit in your fine 2000. Might be prone to feathering if you're using regular copy paper. I have not tried Iroshizuku in my Lamy 2000 yet, so I can't speak to that brand.

Your demonstration shows me the issues that plague a writer who has a definite preference for a particular line width. As a fan of Pelikan, I struggled to find exactly which nib would best suite my taste without actually being able to try one out. It’s obvious that quality and colour of paper from one brand to another as well as the selection of inks (wet or dry) and colours have an effect on what you see. My handwriting size and style tend to change slightly from one pen to another (Pelikan - Sailor - Waterman - Pilot). Finding the right nib in the pen of your choice with an acceptable paper and ink can be a long but enjoyable journey. Enjoy the trip!

Plague is a good word for the struggle haha. Now that Tomoe is being discontinued, I am searching for another suitable paper for myself. Likely going to go with Cosmo Air Light, which I feel is a tiny bit more absorbent so all my pens write just a tad thicker on it, which I don't know how to feel about since I spent so long deciding on certain nib widths, and tuning my own nibs to write how I wanted on Tomoe. One good thing is that Cosmo doesn't show sheen very well, so that's a plus I guess.

Line width is a very personal choice, and the comparisons are helpful. It would have also been helpful to see the papers side-by-side as well as the ink flow. @@inkfade4281 hey, thank you. How is the EF nib to write ? Not scratchy? I have a Platinum Century 3776 Bourgogne in UEF. While it's a good writer, with no skips and also offers line variation when I grip it softer, my only grouse is, it doesn't glorify the ink! All ink appears same. No sheen. No splendour. But i like it anyway because at feather grip, the nib offers misty, whispery fine lines that never stops....it's amazing! Wish I was a Manga artist, then it'll be great to draw in monochrome.

I understand if this comment gets lost or unread but I'm torn between these two because I write in a journal and prefer neat handwriting but I'd believe this medium nib would make the writing look sloppy just because of how bold it writes. For reference how would you compare both of these to say a pilot G2 or something to reference? Thanks!
@inkfade4281
@inkfade4281 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply! I'd say the Lamy 2000 medium nib writes more closely to a Pilot G2 1.0 gel pen. Maybe even a little broader if you use a wet ink. I do think bolder nibs might make writing look a little sloppier, I have to work to not have big loopy writing when writing with bolder nibs since the pen just wants to go everywhere haha.

I imagine you have to have pretty big handwriting to accommodate the 2000 broad nib! I feel I did not have to change my handwriting to fit my medium 2000 nib, but then again I do not write very small anyway. If the broad nibs are too big I wouldn't force a spot in the collection for it, since you might not use that pen as much because of the nib. Of course, by that logic you might miss out on some pretty cool nibs lol.

As of a couple of weeks ago, I have actually have decided to get rid of both of these pens. When I got the medium 2000 last year, I decided to get rid of the fine 2000 because it wrote better imo. I used the medium one quite a bit, but eventually I just stopped using it in favor of some of my other pens; namely, my Pelikan m605 I got recently and some Sailors. I still love the way the medium 2000 writes, but it is a little heavier than I like in a pen and I just wasn't using it like I was my others. I still technically have both of them, but they're in a big box along with other pen stuff I plan to sell hopefully soon. So yeah, as of now, I no longer include either of the 2000s as a part of my fp collection. My pen collection has actually changed quite a bit in the past month or so. Currently my collection consists of six pens, whereas before it was close to a dozen. If the pen is comfortable to write with for you, and you don't mind duplicates in your collection, I would absolutely encourage another! The nibs on these pens are so wonderful to write with, and the pen itself is gorgeous. I'd say go for it!
@laitae
@laitae 3 жыл бұрын
@@inkfade4281 thanks! The plan is not to buy duplicates, unless they are the same model, in a different color and with a different nib. It's along story, but I had my 2000 changed into an architect nib after a series of accidents not long ago. It made me fall in love with this pen again, perhaps it's a sign...But I have a rather strict wishlist of 3 pens I'm allowed to buy this year (one slot has already been taken by Pelikan m405), so we'll see. I hope you'll decide to record a video about what you decided to keep:)

Thank you so much! :D Yeah, I think EF would be your best bet if you're going to be using cheap paper. I think you'd want a dry ink, as well, because I've heard even the Lamy 2000's EF nib can be wet and might feather. I know Lamy's regular ink lineup are quite dry (in my opinion, anyway) and their black, blue, and blue/black would be quite professional. I tend to stay away from dry writing inks, though, so I'm not sure what other brands tend to run dry. Googling dry fountain pen inks will give you some good results, too. The medium 2000 definitely is wider than a 1.0 ballpoint. The fine 2000 is slightly wider than the line my Papermate Joy 100 ballpoint puts down, which is a 1.0 ballpoint. I'd say if you wanted .5 or .7, you'd need to get an EF nib. The medium 2000 nib for me is beyond buttery smooth. Like I have never felt a pen write smoother than this EVER in my life kinda smooth. It's the best! The fine is smooth, too, but the medium is smoother.

I really do appreciate your response, it helped me narrow down my choices. For anyone looking for a ef lamy 2000. I'll just say it will never be as smooth as the Medium or Broad nibs. But it is still very smooth, smoother than any Fine or Extra Fine Japanese Nib. It puts down a 0.5-0.7 width line and is still very very wet for the nib size.
