My first gold nib was a Parker 45 my aunt got for me for around 20 bucks. It's my document signer now, and since purchasing my LAMY 2000 , boy I've fallen in love with the silky smooth gold nib. I use it non-stop for writing essays, letters, and anything for school.

Ma'am, how you write so effortlessly at the same exact writing speed, always with the same beautiful cursive handwriting will always be an impressive feat for the fountain pen in question. You bring out the best in these fountain pens to life.

You have perfectly captured my sentiments towards these two pens. They are both gems and worth buying if one can afford them. The Pilot is my daily workhorse because it is so quickly available to take notes with, while the Lamy is the best for recording or creative writing. I LOVE the term you use to describe the L2K feel....it IS creepily smooth, like, "Is this real life?" But it is an experience I have learned to savor. Thanks for making this fun video. For anyone still wondering, yes, get BOTH!

I'm super new to the fountain pen world, I have a Lamy Logo as my starting pen, I wanted to invest a bit more to have a high quality pen so I wouldn't have to be thinking about upgrading a low end pen. The next purchases I have planned are a Lamy 2k and a Pilot VP. As I wanna have one for my job I will start with the Pilot, the 2020 limited edition has me in love, it's my grail pen for now (as it's difficult to find and here in Europe Fountain pens are quite more expensive than in the US). In the future I will have them both, the Pilot for my job and the Lamy 2k for jounaling at home! BTW, here in Europe you can order an individual nib for the Lamy 2k, so you don't have to be buying a new pen!

Where can you order a new nib from? Do they do the installation aswel?
@MeteCanKarahasan2 жыл бұрын
I got Faber Castell E-Motion and found out the tapered section is not for me. Lamy Logo is a good contemporary straight section pen to Faber Castell Ambition. I find Lamy Scala the best metal on metal threaded pen. I honestly look forward to more such pens, they are more comfortable and you won't ever have any unscrewing issues.

I like your channel. It’s interesting and I’ve watched most of your videos. One thing you didn’t mention about the Vanishing Point, or Capless as some call it depending on where in the world you are, is that for about half the price of a entirely new VP you can buy just the nib section which includes a new nib, locking section and a converter. So, if you have a medium nib and have use for a fine, or other size, at times, you can swap them out. They all fit the Pilot Decimo too. I personally use Pilot cartridges and refill them with bottled ink because I think the Con40 is a horrible converter, the better Con50 has been discontinued, and the Con70 won’t fit.

Entirely accurate. Did not think about mentioning this. Thanks for the additional info!

I currently have a lamy safari and pilot metropolitan and am planning to buy my first proper next level pen. I prefer a smoother pen over a unique pen any day of the week. But people like sbre brown and pen habit matt have said that the VP is the smoothest nib they have ever used including pens that cost much more than lamy 2k and pilot vp. You mentioned that you have several pilot vps. Are any of them smoother than the lamy 2k? Because i want to get a VP but will get a lamy 2k if the lamy 2k is generally smoother than the pilot vp or custom 84.

The lamy 2k is so much smoother to me than the VP. Both are good pens, though.

Thanks! This is the exact comparison I was looking for. Can I ask, from a grip perspective, which feels like it has the more solid grip? The 2000 tapers in more, so I’m thinking the capless has the better grip because the fingers can’t slide down the pen as much? Grip is really important to me. And I prefer a more feedbacky pen.
@HeldinWrites4 жыл бұрын
The grip on the capless is more solid. The clip really guides your grip and because it isn't as tapered you indeed have less sliding. I would go for the Capless if I were you, especially if you like feedbacky pens more. The 2K is not feedbacky at all.

Heldin Writes Thanks very much. I think you have made my mind up. Just in case you are interested, my current collection includes Franklin Christoph 1901, Pelikan M805, Edison Collier, Pilot Custom 74, Leonardo Momento Zero, and a few TWSBIs. All pretty good. But I really need practicality above all else.

I really love the design of the Lamy 2000 it looks like it fits right into 2001 A Space Odyssey I don't know how els to explain it but it's really cool so I'm getting that one as my first gold nib is there much of a difference between the fine and the medium because I prefer a really really smooth nib
@catwhisperer9114 жыл бұрын
I'm trying to decide between the Lamy 2k with a fine nib and a medium nib for my edc. I'd prefer the medium nib because it lays down more ink and it is smoother but I'm afraid it won't work well with cheaper paper stock which I am frequently forced to use. Advice? Suggestions?

I've been using the Vanishing Point for several weeks, and I like it's smoothness a lot! Its feedback and clip position doesn't bother me at all, rather I find them fairly pleasing. Would you recommend getting the Lamy 2000 next?

Ive discovered that the ink and pen combination makes a ‘major’ difference hence, you said the capless isn’t as smooth as the other ones you have. I’ve been field testing for a few weeks now and am frustrated that certain inks wouldn’t work well with certain pens i would’ve wanted them to be paired with. Field testing is essential. I have neither but, I’d get the capless because of the aesthetics and functionality. The 2000 kept redirecting my thoughts to say it looks like a ‘high end’ felt tip pen ( you know the red ones teachers use to correct the students work)... therefore, I couldn’t bring myself to get one.

Very late to this -- but how do you feel about the finer or extra-fine Lamy 2000?
@HeldinWrites2 жыл бұрын
I like them, but they are not as fine as some would want them to be! Also my EF is very stubby weirdly!

Hi. I have ordered the L2k fine and not the medium. Any take on that nib?
@HeldinWrites3 жыл бұрын
I like it, it's a bit more finicky when it comes to writing angle but when you get it right it's very smooth..
@TBeermonster5 жыл бұрын
If you get a vintage faceted body Namiki Capless then they are plastic bodied, and much lighter. The clip is a bit less intrusive as well.

the pilot vp is like $70 in my country whereas the lamy 2000 is the same price as others should i save up and buy the lamy or go for the vp? i probably won't be buying the other if i buy one for a while so which one would be a better option?also if i go with the vp should i go medium or fine nib?
@HeldinWrites4 жыл бұрын
Neehal I would go for the vp then, especially if you’re not planning on long writing sessions (day four five pages), medium with good paper, fine if you have bad paper!

@@HeldinWrites i was planning to use it as a regular pen mostly for note taking,while that's not usually alot but can be alot many times although my most papers are decent being provided bad quality papers are not that rare I'd go for the fine but there can be some scratchiness and i heard the medium is smoother idk which one to go for

Will the medium VP bleed badly through normal office documents?

I think so, yes. It's a fairly normal (western-ish) medium. If you're using normal office paper I would use a fine.

I cant choose between the Pilot VP and the Platinum 3776 Which one would you recommend and why?
@HeldinWrites4 жыл бұрын
They are both good for different reasons. It really depends on what you want to use it for. If you want a quick draw pen for in work/school situations or do you want a pen that is in my opinion slightly more comfortable to use for longer writing sessions? If the first, go for the VP, if the second, go for the 3776.

If I want to go for a extra fine nib, which one would you prefer for day to day writing?
@HeldinWrites4 жыл бұрын
I would say the 2k, it's more comfortable to use for more writing.
@genelo68904 жыл бұрын
@ Anand Bhandari the extra fine nib on the VP is very feedbacky depending what paper you write on and the VP EF nib line width is a lot narrower than 2K. the 2K writes more like a Fine / Medium line width depending on paper again. I agree with her that the VP converter has small ink capacity and a pain to get a full fill unless you use a syringe. The VP clip helps me with keeping the nib in the correct writing angle while the 2K is touchy with the nib angle if you tilt the angle to the left / right just a little . If you write really small the VP fine / medium nib should be just fine with day to day writing . Just keep in mind that Lamy NIB line width on paper are wider than most Japanese / Western fountain pen companies ( eg Montegrappa, Pelikan) by 0.1 mm .
@anandbhandari1004 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot. I went for 2k and it was a good decision. The only sore point is horizontal strokes are not that smooth but all other aspects mentioned for the pen are accurate and too good! Let me know and I can share some writing samples. :)
@genelo68904 жыл бұрын
@@anandbhandari100 Good choice. Is the horizon Stokes not as smooth both directions ( to the right and left)? You might want to make sure you are not rotating the nib a little in either direction and just barely miss the sweet spot of your 2k pen. If that doesn't help , check if the pen tines are even without 1 being a little higher than the other under magnification. If so, try to even the tine on your fingernail / pushing with your finger a little. Just keep in mind just a little rotation in the nib angle left/ right on the paper with 2k affects the ink flow.
