This is what I love about Emma's character and how I can relate in some ways to her, is that instead of being the "damsel in distress," People like her, Mulan, and Tiana are all "badass" types and can stand up on their own.

Personally, I find the fixation modern writers have with making female characters "badass" annoying and limiting. Male characters are often more interesting by comparison because they're allowed to have weaknesses and don't have to conform to an ideal. I thought curse era Mary Margaret was a more interesting and likable character than clichely "badass" Snow White.
