Lanai must have plenty fish. Big Island too much guys fish and dive so hard to catch fish. You gotta go where you need 4wd to catch fish. I tried using poppers and stick bait lures for the first time about 3 weeks ago on the Breakwall in Hilo, HAWAII and I caught a 30lb GT ULUA with a new Halco Giant Trembler RED HEAD WITH WHITE BODY lure, New Penn spinfisher 950ssm reel with 77lbs 12 strand PE braided line, 250lb 8 strand PE braided line for the leader, New NOEBY GAINERS NBG862EXH JIGGING ROD. The GT took the lure when it was about to come out of the water in front of me. I just yanked it out of the water and the top half of the rod snapped above a boulder and I grabbed the leader line and lifted the GT to a spot where I could get the lure out. Got hooked with the treble hook on my finger bone while it struggled but I managed to rip the hook out of my finger. Took the GT home and ate it for dinner 🍽 had to walk about 1 and a half miles back to my car from the point of the Breakwall.
