We have the same surname, in fact my older brother is also called Lance. We're from South Africa, and our decendants here come from an 1820 Settler who travelled with the Thornhill group. George Annandale was a smith, and had to work for Mr Thornhill for 6 years to pay off his travelling costs. They settled in the East London area. In 1826 or '27, George married a Boer women, a Johanna Susanna Jacoba de Beer if my memory serves, and joined the Great Trek up to the Transvaal. I wonder if one of their children or grandchildren went further North to what became Rhodesia/Zimbabwe? I once found a photo of a late Rhodesian military pilot by the name of Donald Annandale. My memory fails me, in that I can't recall the circumstances of his service or where I found the photo.
