Not only is Zavala one of the forefront NPC's, but Lance Redick owned that role like a BOSS for a decade, and where we go from here is an extremely difficult task to pull off. THIS is the most crucial task that Bungie has ever had to figure out and it needs to be done right AND in a way that HONORS the man himself, Lance Reddick. He loved this role and community.

I think they should write in an story for the next season about Zavala's Ghost being destroyed and then Zavala being seriously injured. His injuries could cripple him and prevent him from continuing the fight and one injury could cause the loss of his ability to speak. His inability to speak, crippling injuries, and loss of his ghost would force him to step down from leading the vanguard. Bungie could then move Zavala's character model near the monument of Cayde6 with the function that players could hug him or shake his hand. This would allow the character to still exist in some capacity. As for who could replace him just have the player's character model become the new leader. I mean the player character has been speaking for a few years now unlike before where they were a mute. Maybe in time after the pain of losing Lance Riddick doesn't cut so deep anymore Bungie could create an in lore reason for healing Zavala. In doing so it doesn't completely heal his vocal chords and thus gives an in lore reason as to why he sounds differently because of a different voice actor. It wouldn't be the first time Bungie replaced a well known actor in this franchise...Peter Dinklage comes to mind albeit that was for vastly different circumstances.

@@_gungrave_6802 I think they should only hire a replacement long enough to give Zavala an honorable resolution to his second life (ideally sacrificing himself to defend others), and then let the character find peace in death (and an afterlife if you believe in one) with his wife and son. I think that would be the best way to honor the character that Lance Reddick brought to life. His character arc is pretty well resolved after Season of the Haunted, and while they could come up with more developments for the character with a new voice actor, I'd much rather see them close the curtain on him and leave him firmly as a part of Lance Reddick's legacy.

Lance really sold the emotional distress and feeling of betrayal the Awoken Commander felt hearing the actions of the Traveler. After all, Zavala was one of the most hopeful believers in the Traveler. I felt more empathy for him after witnessing the events of Season of the Haunted. For many New Lights, and Destiny Veterans, Zavala was a guiding light of what Guardians hoped to become: an inspiration to many and a friend to anyone to offer an open hand.

tbh the way i see it is this: 1) kill him off - logically makes the most sense to retire commander Zavala and also to respect the role of Lance Reddick. Maybe we can have an interim VA to like send Zavala off in-game (sort of how Cayde was voiced by Nolan North instead of Nathan Fillion for Forsaken which is still better than killing off Sagira off-screen because bungo either didn't get or wanna pay for Morena Baccarin). However, there might not be as much of a "shock value" in terms of players buying an expansion because their favourite character in-game is gonna die (i.e. Forsaken). I could be wrong about this because given the situation right now, people might actually buy an expansion as a way to pay respect to Lance Reddick and send off Zavala in-game. 2) replace with a new VA. might be a bit disrespectful given how Zavala was voiced by Lance Reddick since D1 Vanilla + also always reading out some player's texts "as Zavala" so idk about this. Wouldn't mind if they just use an interim VA to send off as stated in 1) 3) (somehow) manages to replicate his voice using AI sampling. this i feel is a bit more disrespectful than 2) ? idk i am kinda on the fence regarding this issue cuz i highly doubt AI can capture the soul of his voice as well as the demeanour of Commander Zavala. again, this is just my view please don't attack me. But If I did say something wrong feel free to correct.

I'm just worried that when they run out of his lines, what are they going to do? I mean, yeah, could just recast him, but I feel like he's too well established, that they have to find someone who fits Zavala, not someone who puts their own thing into it. I would want as little change as possible. If the next voice actor tries to put his own style , even just a little bit, it's going to ruin it for me. It won't be Zavala. I'd rather they just kill off the character, if the next voice actor doesn't do a (at least near) perfect Zavala.

And yet, even with my weapons gaining no more than dust, and my cloaks beginning to fray, hearing this news hurt me. As a character, Zavala was one of my utmost favorites, beaten only by Cayde-6. As a voice actor, Lance was undoubtedly the best among them all, though I can list many more who did outstanding work. But Lance and Zavala just felt so right. God, this hits different after losing Lance. He genuinely seemed like a great, passionate guy with a special love for his craft & work. And everything I heard about him from those who have met and interacted with him is nothing but praise. May the light provide, and may he rest in peace.

I feel honoured that we were so fortunate to have such a talented individual be part of something we loved, and were a part of too. Although we may not have known him personally, we were lucky enough to have been blessed with this man’s talent, and we would have followed him into battle without hesitation, whether it be in the realm of Destiny, or in our reality. Rest easy Commander, you’ll always be treasured in my memories, and my heart. ❤
