Lance Storm has no idea what he's talking about. Ratings are important, they translate to Ad-Revenue, the higher the ratings the more advertisers and the more expensive you can charge for ads. him saying Angle's don't draw and that the show shouldn't try to get everyone over shows he has no idea. the WWF was kicking WCW's ass BECAUSE everyone on the show was over, it wasn't a one man, every single character had purpose, that was Russo's doing in 98-99 and Kreski in 99-00. Lance Storm has never drawn in the business, Disco has drawn more in a year than Lance Storm did in his almost 30 year career. he could not talk, no amount of wrestling moves made him a draw. he had no business winning all the titles(thanks to Russo) nor did he have any business being in the ring with The Rock in 2001.

I was with Storm for the first part of this, but he doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about here, when he claims WWF only focused on McMahon/Austin, WCW only focused on the NWO. Those feuds were the biggest feuds in those respective companies, but they weren't the only feuds at all, especially for the WWF. I mean, DX was over HUGE and weren't involved with Austin more than they were, Undertaker was far from being just another guy on the roster. WCW's other feuds weren't as pronounced but Medusa, when she was there every few months, feuded with Bull, Flair and Miss Elizabeth had their feud with Macho Man, we had Benoit (pos) vs Sullivan. Having just one long term feud is maybe a good idea for a small promotion, but a bigger promotion needs more moving parts, they just don't need everyone doing something all the time. This is what hurts guys and makes your product stale.

For crying out loud, he was complaining about them not having anything for him. Imagine the majority of the locker room complaining because you don’t having anything for them. Storm is dead on when saying WCW booking too many angles (Russo) was what made the product unwatchable, as long as dildo on a pole matches. I was a WCW guy until Russo got there. When nash was booking and WCW got lame with the new logo, i assumed it was a lul point, like WWF had in 96, and that they would pick it back up. In late 99 and 2000, the show was literally unwatchable to anyone with an IQ over 90. To be fair, WWE's ruthless agression era had horrendous angles, but i didnt watch any of that either. I watched WCW, then WWF on tape from 95-98. Then when godlberg got his push I did the opposite. I would watch Raw, then WCW on tape. I eventually quit watching WCW all together. Then when they closed shop, i watched Raw, Smackdown, and heat every week. When WWF did the botched invasion I started just watching PPVs, when triple H was pushed as the top guy and Rock left, I quit watching.. I didnt watch any wrestling until I got married and had a kid a few years ago. But that was only wrestlemania and listening to the Simon Miller and meltzer podcast. Now im trying to get into AEW. Everyone always talks about what it takes to make a successful company. Disco thinks its whores, meltzer and storm thinks its great matches with long term booking. The truth is, getting people invested in certain stars is the only key. The Rock and Stone cold are why WWF won the monday night war. WCW didnt keep a top guy and shuffled them around in 99 and 2000. The characters they had just werent interesting enough. But in their hayday. They had the NWO stable, The Outsiders, Macho Man and Sting. Bret Hart was there in the end but his character didnt draw incredibly well for WWF, neither did michaels. There drop off started with Triple H being the Top guy, burying all their other top talent. Then Cena, which was a kids fan favorite, which doesnt work either. Austin and rock were popular with adults and kids. So was mankind. Whereas Sting was popular with kids and NWO was hot with teens and adults. If AEW has solid top stars the fans are invested in (which they do with Cody, Omega, Jericho, and the bucks) they will succeed in being a successful promotion. If they dont have big stars with decent booking, like TNA, they will fail

Madvillain I understand perfectly. It’s Lance Storm that doesn’t understand. Last minute booking is making decisions on the fly with no clear cut direction. Bischoff did last minute booking where the shows & decisions were still being made while they were on the air. Whereas, his definition of last minute booking is all booking. Vince, Prichard, Russo, Cornette & others have stated that nothing in the business is set in stone & “plans change.” Lance has never been a booker nor does he have the aptitude for it. He uses the old, stubborn mentality that Vince McMahon uses where they have a vision & they refuse to deviate from it (ala Cena & Reigns). There’s nothing wrong with having a set goal but you need to adjust those plans according to fan response & the advent of new/better/fresher ideas. Especially, when you’re going head-to-head in a ratings war.

Lance and Cyrus refuse to remember that WWF 1997-2005 was a million different angles each show. Many short ones finishing up and new ones starting all the time. The Main Event angles with Austin and Rock and such were longer programs but everyone on the roster was involved in an angle. This was started by Russo-Ferrara and continued for years. WCW went out of business, not because of bad booking, it always had bad booking even when profitable. It failed due to too many huge guaranteed contracts, too little focus on merchandising, too much censorship by the Turner muckety mucks, and a desire to drop wrestling by Turner execs and Aol Time Warner execs. How would they know since they had absolutely no knowledge of the finances or the booking process?

A part of this is screwing with Disco. Blaming Disco for WCW's death is absurd. Company was already about dead by the time he got in there and it was because of the foundation set up prior to him coming in. I do agree with them though that too many angles can hurt people. You need to cycle people out and keeping them in non-stop angles can overexpose them. One of the perks to the territories is that wrestlers would only be around for so long and go to a new territory keeping them fresh, wrestlers don't have that luxury anymore and is one of the reasons the Big Show never reaches levels even close to Andre.

Actually, Storm is correct on this. Ratings are only as important as the revenue they generate. When either Raw or Nitro was leading in the ratings, they were also a top seller in commercial licensing (with South Park and the Simpsons) for young adult males. They had a strong viewer to consumer ratio, meaning people who watched their wrestling, bought shirts, video games, PPV's, and paid to go to live events. Russo's problem was he only fixated on ratings for TV while devaluing lucrative revenue opportunities such as the house show and PPV market. TNA had good ratings for a wrestling show but their brand was shit. They couldn't make money off live events and the majority of their PPV's were held in the Impact Zone where they didn't make any money off the live gate. If wrestling fans aren't paying for wrestling, why would another advertiser pay to promote their product on that show? Wrestling on free television should at its core, be a thinly-veiled infomercial for the wrestling brand.

Disco brings up how The Rocks angle came up and Storm says that's short-sighted and booking week to week yet it was one of the three most successful acts/gimmicks/angles/characters of all time in the industry. And the Attitude and Nitro era was mainly successful because everyone was in an angle, not like the mid 90s where you had 4 jobber matches like HBK vs Trevor Wilson and one angle in the main event. there's definitely good points on both sides here. Lance is right, good booking SHOULD be long term. there should be a end game months down the line and then you book back from that. of course there are going to be wildcards and some on the fly calls but there should be an ultimate goal.... But disco and that team had to work with what they had. they had a bloated roster and too many guys with too much power and say over their positions in the company. so they were forced to book on the fly. the result was a poor product. the result was a need to hot shot weekly because you couldn't count on a long term plan not being underminded by talent who didn't want to partake they did not lost money primarily due to booking. they lost money because the roster was massive, overpaid, and under utilized. you'd have guys who would fly first class to a show only to be told they weren't working. you had guys on the pay roll who literally wouldn't work an entire year. go look back at the payrolls from those later years and then look how much guys worked.

Disco made some good points. Lance and Cyrus come across as major a$$holes to him. Hearing lance and cyrus talk about what makes money is insane as neither drew any money in their entire careers and disco probably sold more merch in a month then both combined sold in their entire careers.

@@KeepinIt100OFFICIAL no they werent because it was easy to see that neither was capable of that spot. Dont have to be top guy to draw. Lance was not a good talker and was bland with almost no personality. A solid worker in ring but nothing to stand out. Came across as a bland less intense and interesting version of guys like benoit and jericho. When they did try to push he couldnt get more then mild reaction from audience who could see he was a lesser talent then whothey wanted ie: jericho benoit and eddie. As for Cyrus well he had some talent on mic to rile a xrowd but what little in ring work he did showed he was at best only slightly above that local enhancement talent that would be brought in to be jobbed out. Neither wete anywhere close to being good enough to be considered for a serious run as a top level guy. Disco not as good as Lance in ring but he had far better showmanship then lance and seems here to have better grasp of tv business then either lance or cyrus.

It's been proven WCW was killed because the AOL and Turner executives hated wrestling. It's why AOL didn't bid for Raw in 2000 and just kill WCW off afterall. Most acting Lance has done, shame he couldn't do that back in the day

Disco doesn't acquit himself well here. I'll be generous and say he must have a better understanding of tactics, because he clearly doesn't comprehend larger overall strategy. He doesn't even seem to know what weekly vs. long range booking is. Finally, Disco hanging up on the phone during the commercial break was just immature and petty. Not a good look for him.

this was a great virtual skit to ork the fans. done very well. both parties like em or not had valid points. but at the end no matter what could have been done with wcw's numbers..i think it came down to the turner ppl who bought it out didn't want wrestling at all. maybe they could have pulled a miracle hail mary like approach, and if the new execs didn't want wcw on their platform it still was a dead issue. if bischoffs plan for wcw's purchase would have went through it may have been a different ending perhaps to wcw's future.

Im sorry but wcw was not very good in the last year of existence it was a trainwreck.disco didnt have to defend wcw cuz i dont think anyone could save it..but as a wish i would have like to see lance win the wcw title as hot as he was in 99. 2000 but the booking was funked up...

I think they both have credibility. Disco got a very cheesy gimmick over and was good at selling and he was an agent and booker during the Attitude Era. Meanwhile, Lance was an excellent technical wrestler who lacked charisma but he was a successful midcard performer in every company during the Attitude Era as well. But Lance here has an agenda to disparage Disco's background and mock him because he feels personally insulted by Disco. Disco is actually complimentary of the match but his opinion is contrary to Lance's on some of the style.
