DISCLAIMER: I am not a veteran or active service member of any branch in the US military. The reason for the use of Corporal in my username is that it was a nickname one of my high school football coaches called me, and when I was deciding on my username during my account's creation in 2012, I decided to have my username be a reference to my brief time in high school football

Another for Sir Christopher Lee... He had to correct the director of Lord of the Rings because they tried teaching him how a man sounds when stabbed in the back. And Lee's response was along the lines of "Have you ever heard a man stabbed in the back? Cause I have"

@@LanceCorporalHawk30 Audie Murphy was already a western star before he was himself in To Hell and Back, playing himself. He had turned the roll down and requested they get Tony Curtis for the role. The parts of his exploits left out of the film was mostly at his request. He was afraid the audience wouldn't believe what they were watching which would have effected his credibility. Which is something he protected most of his life. He was the soldiers soldier, refusing to do cigarette advertisement or anything else that would tarnish that image. I personally believe some of it was due to PTSD he suffered with and was just far too difficult to relive everything he experienced. That being the reason he refused the roll to play himself in the first place.

Man my dad was Vietnam Navy veteran but the Obama admin would not allow him to have a 21 gun solute and I will never forgive him that!

The only reason he would have been denied a funeral with military honors, including the three volley salute, would be if he had a less than honorable or dishonorable discharge. The full 21 gun salute is reserved for high ranking officers and heads of state.

@@ODragonwing you know what can do... GO F*CK YOURSELF. He had a compaction from an Admiral of the navy for his service. He was the coms guy that maintained the phones and hooked the ship up to shore coms. None of us even knew till after he died, so go eat a SH!T SANWICH.

Hey LanceCorporal about ur grandad. SOG had folks from all branches. Notably, SF, SEALs, Marine Force Recon, etc. They didn't interact tho. They stayed within their unit composition, just had their own ops. Except Air. I think they proly supported all the units. So, you may want to look deeper. And under SOG, if a unit was in trouble, almost anything that could react, might. Up to and including air and naval guns.

I recall hearing that he was a Corporal in Force Recon. Beyond that I don’t know much of the things he did in the war, other than he was one of those exposed to Agent Orange, plus trained at Camp Lejuene after being drafted

@@LanceCorporalHawk30 Early on the VA would ask for where a person was in Vietnam to determine possible exposure to Agent Orange. Later it seemed they accepted most of Vietnam as possible. So, a lot of folks might consider getting checked with the VA.

@@CandC68 well it contributed to his lung cancer and COPD, which caused his death in August 2010. Some of the things I wasn’t able to ask him about were told to me by my Nana, who unfortunately passed from cancer herself last year, such as him being stationed on Okinawa between deployments to Vietnam. There’s not much else I can currently think of regarding his deployment

@@LanceCorporalHawk30 You should be proud of him. From the little you know of him, it sure seems he deserves respect.

@@CandC68 I’m absolutely proud of him. He was a good man. He owned his own veterans club, was a black belt in karate, was a jailing administrator who was even respected by the prisoners in the county jail he worked at, sang at his club regularly (I remember one time when I was still in elementary school, I think, my sister and I were snuck into the side entrance during operating hours so we could see him sing one night), he went fishing with my dad and I in the earlier stages of his lung cancer, and the day of his funeral, when the Corps were performing TAPS, I remember saying that I wanted to be a Marine like him, though that ended up never happening, much to my regret. The day he died, I was one of the last few to talk with him over the phone, and wish I could’ve been in the same state to see him more. I loved my Papa Roland very much

@@leojamesclune1730 true. Plus Peter Jackson was the last director to put a stake through his heart, in homage to Lee’s legendary portrayal of Dracula. Jackson was trying to be slick about it where Lee wouldn’t notice, but just as Jackson called “Action”, Lee glared into the camera and said “this feels strangely familiar. 20 years ago I looked up and saw Peter Cushing. Now all the way down here in New Zealand, I look up and see Peter Jackson”
