The concept of the near-light drive is one of my favourites right now. Imagine being on a ship launched just a few months before the first Union war or the Deimos event to a star dozens of light-years away. Some super important historical event happens but from your perspective you only have a few seconds to react to each data burst as decades pass and everything changes...

I do want to say that the Great Tragedies in the first section of this vid are actually called the Three Traumas, something I think is important when reckoning with the themes of Lancer, and especially its first big module, No Room For A Wallflower. Lancer is about many things, but an almost universal thing I see in every society of Lancer is this great, rippling trauma serving to be the first hammer striking the characteristic face of a society onto its fabric. The Great Traumas and the events leading up to the ThirdComm Revolution for Union, the Interest Wars and Annorum Tyrannus for the Karrakin Trade Baronies, the invasion of Sparr by the Second Committee for the Sparri, and... whatever the fuck the Aun have going on for the Aun.

I am definitely getting some big 40k vibes from the timeline so far. Tho I guess maybe these tropes are just becoming more common. Ancient advanced version of humanity that collapses back to the stone age. People start to rebuild and discover ancient lost technology. Venturing out to the stars to rediscover long lost colonies and trying to reunite them all. yatta yatta. Tho I am very much interested in learning more of the lore behind NHPs

The major difference being that Lancer is Noble Bright whereas 40k is grimdark. Heck, the reason why the fascist regime is overthrown in the lancer universe is because the general populace found out they genocided a alien species.

Noblebright seems a good explanation realy! I start to think that it realy depends on whomever hear about the Union. Like me, I peronally hear their Story and think they are the Best, that could happen to humanity and I try to tell my Players about it... And all of them decide, that the Union must be the bad Gouvernment and start to play Mercernarys and Pirates to have a better Future 😅😂 Makes no scence to me, but we are having a blast! So I start to think the Authors of Lancer are fucking Geniuses and that might be the Kind of Story they wanted to tell. About like the diversity of people thoughts and Storys? I love it!

@@ValkyrieQueenInori The entire setting's lore is bipolar like that. One writer is trying for Noble Bright, and absolutely _insistent_ that the setting is such. But there's another strain of 'there is something rotten in the state of Denmark' in the writing, persistently. A significant portion of that is kind of innate, Noble Bright settings have a hard time with meaningful conflict in general. However, while the text itself insists on how great things are, looking at what is going on _screams_ that it's not going so well. Five AI's behind the scenes making all the decisions for the Union, the Union's total inability to accept any human could want to live outside of it's rule, the Megacorps being so dominant, the fact GMS essentially _is_ Union, the entire Ra/NHP situation, the fact that Union's three pillars would require revolutionary paracausal tech to deal with the fact that resources aren't actually infinite... I could go on, but the point stands I think. It's 'the lady doth protest too much' in it's 'Look how Noble Bright we are!' but hay, details.

It just feels like he isn't really talking about it, which again is fine, but it is such a big part of the lore and the subtext that it just sounds weird.

Plus other video series on LANCER don't shy away from the politics. Check out 11dragonkid's Drink Deep and Descend a Lancer Lore series as a contrast to this lore series, to see what I mean.
