During the AM Rush hour, some (1) Trains terminate at 215th Street, then head to 240th Street Yard

There was one time there was a 15 mph restriction going across the bridge. Glad it seems those days are history.

@@brooklyntrainspotting8464 I'm sure there were a number of reasons. For one it is a lift bridge so I'm guessing that should there be a failure and the bridge wasn't aligned properly they'll be less damage should the train derail.

The boundary between Manhattan and The Bronx follows the original course of the waterways (the snaking headwaters of the Harlem River and the turbulent Spuyten Duyvil Creek) between the two. In 1895 the Harlem River Ship Canal was dug between the Marble Hill neighborhood of Manhattan and the rest of Manhattan to straighten and connect the two bodies of water, and in 1914 the original course was filled in. That's why it looks like this area is really part of The Bronx. But it remained part of Manhattan. Remember than in 1895 when this began, New York City only consisted of Manhattan. The Bronx didn't become part of Greater New York City until 1898, although the western part of The Bronx had been ceded by Westchester County to New York County in 1874 and the eastern part of The Bronx was ceded to New York County in 1895. The Bronx didn't become its own county until the beginning of 1914, the newest county in New York City and the only one not predominantly on an island.
