I had 3 krakens in a "row" 26 march 21 , that "mean in same day on same ship Benham in a row (Iplayed some battles on other ships between), and that felt good, cause I am average player and those 3 krakerns made my total number of krakens rise to 39... (BTW Östergotland is Swedish destroyer , and you are from Finland ... so you are basically Swedish ;P)

I actually love Oland, one of my best WR ships, not that much dmg but it has really taught me positioning in DDs... like, if you learn to play pan-europeans in terms of positioning, your overall DD gameplay will thrive... already regrinding them, lots of fun and utility :)

The only reason i can think of why players don't shot dds is because in low tiers, the gun dispersion in larger ships ( mainly battleships) is so shit that the shells go around the dd, specialy when its moving towards you. So, why waste a volley on a target that you will miss??

Don't think this statement is true for Asia server though, it seems people are crazy about DDs there, and DDs are shot every time they are spotted, and even CVs like to harass DDs constantly, which cause the drop of number of DD players. Not that I am complaining, DD is still my main ship type now and I enjoy the challenges. And because of those challenges, Euro DD line is one of the best DD line currently because they have decent guns (although only 4 but fast reload), very long range and fast torp in terms of both speed and reload which add a lot of flexibility of when to use them (either close range torp whenever there is chance or long range torp if there are temporary moments when radar ships and planes preventing us to advance), and very strong AA defense to counter the planes that harass us. Ah, I nearly forget to mention that I decided to grind Euro DD Line because of your Halland gameplay commentary video. Thank you for that.

My only assumption for why nobody else-even cruisers, bizarrely enough-ever shoots at DDs is because they'll miss their shot, and usually I have this thought in mind too, unless their DD is in a really tight spot and has little room to maneuver, or is just starting to smoke up and slow down, making themselves easier to hit.

yeah, like usually most BBs are very far when DDs are spotted and they can just wiggle-wiggle-giggle to throw off the shells. And because of their long reload the BBs can't afford to shoot at something they will probably miss compared to something like an enemy BB

I've learned since writing this that if a DD is currently fighting one of our own, they'll be too distracted to even pay attention to the BB 14km away, so I'm still able to land hits if I shoot them.

i think when you showed your first engagement with the cossack you answered your own question of why BB players dont shoot at DDs. They cant hit them, so why shoot a volley for 0 damage, when you can shoot one for any other amount.

Love my Oland, I use a strange set up of absolute Max AA (both gunnery+ AA skills and adrenalin rush) I also use both rudder shift upgrades so my detect is 6.5k but I can juke airplanes, dodge torps and it has a nice set of brakes to frustrate incoming fire whilst shimmy-shimmy-shake kite-fighting. Strange set-up yes but it frees me up to play as an aggressive open water lone wolf even when CVs are in play. The detect doesn't bother me because kite-fighting from a distance (10+k) is Olands best realm: at least in my book. At Max AA Oland has a very strong AA game, I often try to goad the focus of the CV by literally charging to/at his airplanes to piss him off which frees up my more vulnerable teammates. Note: Oland has a low health pool yes but it also has "very strong heals". I set-up my Oster the same but include the 6th slot AA upgrade which produces an near Halland AA equivalent ship but it's also way more maneuverable than Halland. Ironically I don't like my Halland: in-fact, I hate it lol I feel that (in having no smoke) I'm forced into going Max AA via the CVs current "over-powerful" status but it fits my playstyle anyway.

Issue with BB shooting DD is... shit dispersion, slow shells vs small target and maneuverable. Only time I feel I can reliably take out a DD is in the Atlanta and other daka-daka and even those are quite unreliable outside of 5 km... I may as well say flipping 12 coins and landing heads 12/12 has a higher chance of occurring than doing any damage with a NC hitting any DD when I am forced to stay 10 km away.

I find that the european destroyers even though their torpedoes do very little damage the flood chance is very good so if you can get a ship that has used damage control and you land a whole salvo most likely you will get two floods

tbh i main battleships (conqueror specifically) and originally I wouldn't shot DD's cus usually i'd miss and considering its 25 seconds or so before reload I'd rather get a guaranteed hit on a enemy cruiser or battleship than risk not getting a hit on the enemy dd then be down 25 seconds reloading, Also genrally the dd stays spotted for 10 seconds or so and I'd still be reloading when they're spotted, so I can see why battleships don't want to fire at dd's. Though now I'll try to help the dd as if I score a hit that British HE will just melt the dd alive.

The counterpoint is that spotting a dd is a rare and difficult task. You'll have loads of time to shoot an enemy bb or CA. You only get so many opportunities to shoot DDs.

I'm regrinding Halland line to swap the captain onto Friesland and going more gun-focused for a challenge, too, and it's great. This really helps you realise that the guns on these ships are good. And the lower range is even better since you kill their DD and you're far less likely to be spotted due to gun bloom.

Öland is a very underrated ship tbh. It sure has it downsides but the pure dpm you can pump out with both torps and guns (not to mention torp AND shell speed being insane) is just something else.

I blew one of these away with a British cruiser (Edinburgh), was super surprised to find out it was a tier 8! Four 152mm AP pens took over half it's HP off.. So no surprise it has the lowest hitpoints of all the T8 dds. Heal didnt help it much ahah

I fire at DDs as a BB for a few reasons. 1) They may slow down or change course, which helps with setting up firing zones or forcing a retreat. 2) As a floating island, it's kinda hard to dodge torps, and I really hate being torped to death. 3) If even _one_ of my shells hits a DD, it can open up the possibility of an ally taking them out a few shells earlier than if I wait until a safer target pops up. A DD dead three seconds early is a DD that can't torp me!

I try to shoot at a DD when i see him, but most of the time the shells that could have done damage to another target will completely miss a DD, unless the DD is sub 10km away. If i don't have a target that i was engaging before or if no one else is shooting the DD, i'll throw a salvo out and pray that this is the one in a million shot it will do something. Hell, it's depressing seeing half of my HE shells hit the DD and only do 3k damage to him, while it would have done 2-3x more to another BB or CR. + since when are BBs the counter to DDs?

To be super useful in European dds is hang with a dd that caps and support it. Use its smoke as needed or spot when it smokes up.

Plus credits and xp are based on percentage of damage done to a ship. 5k or damage done to a bb can equal 30k of damage done to a BB.

BBs don't want to shoot DDs because in the very, very likely scenario that their salvo is avoided or just whiffs, they've water their usefulness for the next 30s or so, and it feels like it'd be more useful to spend that 30s hitting a target that's likely to actually get hit. Even if it probably is better overall to fire at the DDs anyways, that's the feeling it gives, so I'm not sure why you're ragging on your bb players so hard. In fact, there were a couple of times they did shoot perfectly aimed salvos that just... didn't do any damage because of spread. good video though, do love seeing your CA/DD gameplay

People don't shoot destroyers that much because it's a lot harder to hit destroyers than it is battleships or cruisers, especially if they're far away. This is especially true for battleships, because missing your entire salvo is likely and a waste of the better part of a minute of your time.

I'm quite a good DD main but Öland always gets matched against T10 often even outnumbered by DDs. Once I had me being the only DD (T8) against 2x T9 DDs. How does the MM allow such things at all.

Try playing the Orkan. In the current meta, she is super strong, the best DD hunter in the game. There is no t8 dd in the game I would not gunfight with, and very few t9s.

To me, the results with the europeean line are not constant. It's an inferior line if DDs. 1) no smoke (tougher to disengage) 2) low torps alpha dmg (tougher to devastate something) 3) no hydro 4) slow DD (35 knots, meh) 5) AAs are not usefull every games. 6) guns are good, but you still cannot 1v1 all DDs 7) gun range is meh It's a very situationnal DD imo. In some games, I have very little opportunities to fight on good terms...

If you have only been playing for two weeks, my best piece of advice is, at the beginning of the match, wait. Let one full minute go by before you touch any key. Then look at the map, and then move. New players often charge ahead and get deleted. Patience helps ALOT.

Wow 8 months later and I'm still the last commenter. Yep no one likes Oland, all good though because no one respects it either. I've now got 1700 games in my favorite ship "Oland"! I've since weened myself off of the extreme rudder shift and gone with 5.8k conceal. I disagree that short MG range is better because most often 12.2k MG range works out better because at 10k+ range with incoming fire alert Oland is very difficult to hit and I can easily melt a BB or Cruiser down using kite fighting techniques from 10k clear out to 12.2k where I'm basically impervious to incoming fire. BB players are all timmies, they want the biggest thing. They too want the biggest number when shooting, and shooting a DD won't yield them a 20.000 hit. Hence why they shoot anything but a DD.
