Hi Issy, on this occasion I was using a NS Blackwater 8 foot 3 ML fishing rod paired with a Savage Gear 3000 stealth reel, spooled with 11 pound braid and 11 pound leader. Its a great and not expensive combo for land base squid sessions, let me know if you need to know any other details.

Hi Liam, have a look at this video I run through the setup I generally use when on my boat and kayak kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqOyhoyYr516q7c when im fishing land base I will use similar but a longer length rod. The setup used in the video was a 8 foot 3 ns blackhole blackwater rod, with a Savage stealth 3000 reel and 15 pound braid. Hope that helps

Hi Jason, happy to help anytime. Typically my squid outfit is 15lb braid and 1 rod length of 15lb leader. You can go lighter but i think because of the rocks and the occasional big squid its good to go a tad heavier. I hope that helps.

I tried that spot at the end of Hearns road. There were 2 gravel coves to park at and each had a pathway down to the rocks. Did you take the one on the left or right? But to the viewers, be warned. It's a very steep and dangerous climb down and up. Only go if you're experienced and know what you're doing

@petereaton67404 жыл бұрын
@@fishingmad i go out the Barwon river when it suitable but im not sure i would do the rip without someone that's experienced, there are some that fish Lonsdale bite and i think one guy has gone through the heads but not sure if thats in his PA or AI but it's a very tricky area once you pass the Queenscliff lighthouse or head out wide with very strong currents at times, but once you learn that area it would be an interesting spot for the pelagic monsters, kings and tuna😉
@fishingmad4 жыл бұрын
Your 100% right going through the heads or the rip would be amazing to target kingies on a kayak. Something I have always wanted to do. But it would take some careful planning and a lot of things going right. Might take the yak up to Portland soon and give it a crack up there aswell as a starter.
@petereaton67404 жыл бұрын
@@fishingmad Portlands awesome but you need the proper offshore gear if you intend going out around the anchorage to chase tuna, however you can get them in closer but usually out around the ships is the go👍i spent a lot of time down there last year but haven't had the finances to do it this year😣 lol
@fishingmad4 жыл бұрын
Your an absolute wealth of fishing knowledge Peter. ( Im very impressed !!! ) Yeah ive been planning the kingies session at Portland for a little while now. I have some stiff but short rods perfect for the kayak. 7 foot 8-12 kilo rod with a Stealth 6000 and 50 pound braid was what I had planned. Was planning on not venturing out to far out to see if we could find the kingies or rat size tuna. Do you think thats heavy enough ?? I think that would be amazing but building up towards it. I was thinking of heading up this weekend but have been very unwell this week so it will likely need to wait a while.
