I'd like to add a piece of advice that if you're not aware of, it can be fatal. Be careful when clearing brush and limbs that you keep an eye out for fallen trees that may be leaning against other trees. My dad hit one and didn't realize it was holding up a fallen tree and it fell killing him instantly. He had been clearing brush for deer hunting for years and never had this happen. It was shortly after a storm had rolled through and blew a lot a trees over. That being said, be careful out there.

If you get winters it's best to do this type of work when it's cold and insects are not around. Also, if you can get a machine with an enclosed air conditioned cab, that's a huge plus for when you stumble onto a yellowjacket nest.

Hank in answer to you question I would recommend a pto driven chipper. Mine handles up to 8 inch diameter branches if you chip as you go you turn those downed trees and brush into future fertilizer. Grapple to gather with chipper on rear pto along with chainsaw in sawhaul rig and your good to go!.

The only thing that you might want to try is to get a picture of the snake to help identify it but getting to the hospital and keeping your heart rate down is you number one priority. Clearin up Brush can be a tricky job there but with a good grapple and chain saw you can do things in a simple fashion where as with a mulcher head its goin to be some time to tackle it and its not the cheapest option. And its best to consult with a good forester if you have questions as well

My best option would be a tractor. Because you are going to have more seat time to enjoy! Lol! BTW here in Eastern Canada, the only serious bite you can have is frostbite! No such poisonous/dangerous critters! But the very cold temperature can kill you as quick as extreme heat if you get in trouble. Good precaution you take having this kit with you. Thanks!

They were saying on the news here in GA that snakes were coming out a lot more this year. I thought about buying some tall snake boots. To be honest, backing a bush hog into material gives me the worst neck pain from always looking backwards. A skid steer mulcher would be much better suited for that project. On another subject, I never considered a bite or sting kit but I'll bet I will have one on every piece of equipment that I have now! I had the unfortunate luck to have run into not two, but three yellow jacket nests this past summer. I hate those little buggers and they will chase you for half a mile. Forest mulcher, unfortunately land critters are on it menue no matter how you do it. The forest mulcher will also be your safest method, somone else said dead leaning tress or dead limbs up in tress can fall on you and kill you but a proper skidloader with the forestry package is designed to make the job safe. A tractor isn't.

Hank, Another great video! I think the debate forestry mulcher vs. Bush hog rages on. There are some benefits of a forestry mulcher. One is you are going forward not backwards like a tractor lol looking backwards gets old as you know second is you are (relatively) sealed up in a cab versus exposed on the tractor. Another one is a mulcher is obv more powerful than a bush hog and less time you need to be off the seat. A tractor has the opposites of what I said. Youd need to come off the seat more, you are more exposed, and its gonna take longer cause its just a different animal. I vote MULCHER for the original cut in and then you can maintain down the line with the bushhog. Think of your time and effort. You can prob clean and thin that in maybe a weekend with a mulcher verses much more time and wear and tear on the tractor. Plus if you RENT something if anything goes wrong with it(generally) the company will fix it. The reason I say all this is because ive done hours of research, phone calls, and videos on KZbin on mulching. I looked into renting a mulcher for my 18 acres of land and to make a few trails on the 18 acre lot next to us. It would be more cost effective to rent and pay the money for lets say a week for a mulcher than it would be to bush hog and chainsaw my way through for months most likely! Time is money!

I keep a snake bite kit around but in reality I doubt if it would be any good the snakes I have seen on my property are so big that that tiny suction cup on the kit would not cover the Fang marks maybe you could do one at a time but honestly I think your time would be better spent getting back to your truck and headed to the hospital or at least call 911. The Rattlers I've run into on my property are usually around 4 to 5 ft long and when they're coiled up the strike they're well above the height of your snake boots so in reality you need snake gaiters also if you're going to be messing around in the heavy stuff. something I have experienced also is that you can walk by a snake one time and he'll let you by but if you come back the same path watch out. Trick is always to be aware listen and look sometimes Rattlers don't rattle they also hiss. That being said the little ones are no joke either I got a friend that can attest to that and don't forget snakes are not always on the ground they climb trees

@@HamiltonvilleFarm Hank let me tell you I've got some snake stories I bet a lot of folks DO. one real quick. I once shot a rattler square in the face with a snake round 9 mm he leaned back and then look back around at me and said, Iknow you did not just shoot me with THAT, luckily my buddy was behind me with a shotgun🤣. As with all things do not waste if you kill a snake slap it on the barbecue they taste like chicken🐔👍

Apparently those snake bite kits are of little real value and can even make things worse. See www.webmd.com/first-aid/snakebite-treatment and www.outdoored.com/blogs/treating-rattlesnake-bites-field for example. Most important is to get medical treatment, including antivenin ASAP.

Where I'm at, there's Black Mambas that roam around. That's a giveaway on the area I'm in. Had 1 enter the house last November.. it only tajes a few minutes and you're out. I'm quite worried that if i buy land here that hiring people would put them in danger, and purchasing antivenom would be a must, just incase. Do you think it's best to fence in the area first or after your done clearing the land. Putting snake wire and stuff. Especially for farming land/homestead living? New Sub👋🏽

@@HamiltonvilleFarm Raleigh NC. The land was logged about 4 years ago so it’s small saplings but the stumps were left behind, pine are rotted but the hard woods are still pretty hard. 8 acres but is $2000 per acre too low?

the best way to clear the land is about 500 lbs of C-4 and plenty of detonators!
