Is OLD SCHOOL Toyota Land Cruiser still relevant? Is it really "Legendary"
The Land Cruiser is Toyota's longest running series of models and the second longest-running SUV in production behind the Chevrolet Suburban. As of 2019, the sales of the Land Cruiser totaled more than 10 million units worldwide.
The first generation of the Toyota Land Cruiser began production in 1951 as Toyota's version of a Jeep-like vehicle. The FJ40 two door Land Cruiser is even rumored to pay tribute to the Jeep by its reference to the “J” in its name. The J60 series was introduced in 1980 and it was given a variety of creature comforts like air conditioning, a rear heater and an upgraded interior. By 1981, total Land Cruiser sales topped 1 million units.
The J80 Series launched in 1990 and in 1998 the J100 series launched and this particular body style and setup ran in production from 1998 - 2007. The 100 models were fitted with a slightly wider chassis, independent front suspension and two new engines. The change to IFS was a first for a Land Cruiser and was made in combination with rack-and-pinion steering to improve on-road handling.
This a 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser and it’s the 4x4 Base trim and when new has a MSRP of: $54,725

I have a 03 LC. The camera does not due justice to how big the interior feels. The inside is so spacious and comfortable. The v8 is also good for so donuts in the snow.

RSCA is the disable button for the Side-Curtain Airbags to stop the system accidentally deploying the Side airbags during severe off-roading tilt maneuvers ...Not Traction control. All in all, you guys rock!!

One tip to ALL UK owners of this vehicle, especially if you’re hauling the 4.7 V8 petrol engine. Get your car professionally converted to run on clean and cheap LPG. This will both save you money and the environment in the long term as well as add years to the life of your truck. I paid top whack for a Prinns multivalve conversion and hand on heart it’s been worth every penny.

Hey John, thanks for recommending, I'm currently in the market to buy a Toyota Land cruiser but I am conflicted in getting petrol or diesel. Why do you recommend petrol over diesel for this car? I would assume that diesel is alot better for these cars, I am also from the UK so I would love to know your opinion. Thanks in advance!

@@isanawab1441 I live in the UK but have a 2nd home in South Africa. I would NOT recommend driving a LPG conversion in South Africa for the simple reason that they do not currently having the fuel station infrastructure to support it. It’s a different story here in the UK but only if you use your brains and know how to plan ahead. If you live or work more than 10 miles from your nearest LPG filling station, I would go diesel. Here in the Midlands, I’m pretty well spoilt for choice and it was the same for me in North East London. It might be different for YOU!

As for my recommendation, that’s easy! Once you fire up that V8 4.7 power plant only then will you understand the true meaning of the saying “Sex on Wheels”! The downside is that this engine drinks petrol likes it’s drunk. LPG is cheaper (less than half the price) and cleaner than dirty diesel. Which means you can still enjoy the good good sex without suffering the nag, nag, regrets in the morning. 😎

I love my '01 LC. It has 109,000 miles so it's not even broken in yet. First thing I did when I got it in '04 was to take off the running boards. Thing that bothers me most is my factory navigation bit the dust a few years ago. Now I wish I had passed on the nav so I could have put in a really superior aftermarket head unit in it. Word is that Toyota is not bringing the LC to the US after the 2021 model year. That's really hard to believe. Lexus will continue to get its version the LX but that things exterior is hideous.

109k miles? Dang, you’re right not even broken in yet! Everything on mine still works and it’s a joy to drive and I love the confidence it inspires that I can go anywhere. Toyota would make a big mistake if they don’t continue to sell the LC in the US. The reason I picked the LC over the LX is it’s understated grace. Thanks for watching

I wanna buy one when I have enough budget. Watched and heard good comment about the LC. Also some bad ones like, the fuel consumption and the road tax. This two is no doubt about it but plus and minus all... In the end of the day, you gotta drive a 20 years old reliable, durable, safe SUV with comfort and style which is still relevant to this day. 90.8 cubic feet max cargo space behind the first row of seats INCLUDES the second row folded up against the first row. Pull those out and WOW you have a lot of space. Probably closer to the 115 to 120 cubic feet amount. 90.8 may also include the third row folded up. Not sure about that. With the passenger seat all the way forward there is a whopping 80 inches of room an for someone 6 foot three this is a big bonus for sleeping. Have a nice day.

Yeah I have 1999 4,2L turbodiesel - it is getting rusty. Prev owner painted the frame and it just rusted under the rubberized coating (epic fail) When I got it, it started pealing revealing huge problem. Im about to dish out the money for renovation. I think it will be worth it, but still it ain't cheap. The car tho is amazing - driving it has therapeutic effects - not even joking! I often make excuses to have somewhere I have to drive to xD

In the UK we don't get 100 series high spec cars without AHC, but we do get a straight 6 4.2 litre turbo diesel. Oh and all UK cars come with locking rear diff and twin batteries. Oh and rust.

Same here in Angola. You can't import a car with more than 3 years. Actually you can, but you have to pay a lot of taxes. There is a few LC100 running, but nobody wants to sell it.
