Congratulations and welcome to Maine! I moved to Maine last year from Florida and recently bought a house in "The County" up the road in Caribou. It is so beautiful up here and the people are some of the nicest you will ever meet.

I can tell your a definite flatlander. Good luck. You have a lot to learn about the north. Get a 4 wheel drive pickup and drive in. Hopefully you will make it in Northern Maine. Except to burn 4 to 8 cords of wood each winter. Life is good for some in the woods good luck.

You will learn.........when it's winter months for sure you will need gloves and or mittens, more than one pair, wear clothes in layers, if you have layers and get warm, you can take of layers to be comfortable, what you don't have extras of things, extra batteries, charged, can't stress that enough. Extra coats, keep that car filled, even extra package food so if and when you get stranded, you will need all I have mentioned!!!

That's a nice piece of property. I looked at it myself. I wouldn't bother with an ATV. Buy a 4x4 truck and a 4x4 tractor with all the implements you can get for it. 35 to 50 hp. You can look at those Amish buildings locally there. From just a shell to completely finished. This is a very mild year. At anytime during the winter you could easily be waste deep or more there. Good luck.

Super excited, my auto shop is under contract to sell (my mom is the owner) and im done working in 3 weeks!! No more work! So to speak lol. Excited, nervous but thrilled! Best of luck to us all!

I’m about an hour north of you near Ashland. I’ve been up here since 2017. I came from way down south in the white mountains of New Hampshire. The land here is flatter than I was used to to and there arnt as many bears but there are lots of moose. I just subscribed to your channel so I can follow your progress. I have a few chickens and lost almost all of them to coyotes and raccoons. I see lots of rabbit tracks on your video so you will have lynx too. They are like a big bobcat with snowshoe feet. You will have moose on land like that and they are pretty calm unless you get in their space. Just like everything else they are more dangerous with young in the spring and rut in the fall. Be sure not to cut down your healthy oak and maple trees. I have a utube channel that I post things on. Videos of my place and local stuff. Not a serious channel but I have fun doing it. I recommend being prepared to get pics of the aurora and a trail cam or 2 so you can see what’s walking around at night out there. The mosquitoes here are so big they need to file a flight plan with the FAA so be prepared. The clouds of black flies will show up first. Be prepared.

@ yeah and you did it many times , but that’s what it takes these days! Congrats !! I would look into hiring forestry mulcher and have them zip around where you intend to put your camp. You would be done with clearing in 1 day or 2, instead of years. They aint cheap, but you will be happier with that I am sure. They will turn everything into fine chips in the ground and you wont get much sprouting. For what its worth !! Good Luck...

I may look into that. I do plan to chop at much wood as I can. Plan to have at least two cord avaliable. I will know much more in the spring when I can do a better inventory of the land.
@jdollar5852Күн бұрын
@@Backyard_Chickens I would plan on having 4-6 cords. There's no such thing as "too much firewood" but there's certainly a thing called not having enough. I hired a friend with a forestry mulcher to do a trail around our property in Georgia. He charged $200 an hour and did in three hours what would have taken me 3 months with chainsaws and a tractor.

Congratulations. It’s a beautiful property. It’s nice that some clearing has been done. A lot of positives with that property. I have a few tips that you probably already know. Take your time and enjoy the journey. Your chainsaw should be good enough. You might want to get skilled at sharpening the chain and having a few brand new chains on standby. Keep the chain sharp. A dull chain ain’t going to work no matter how powerful the saw is. Wear chainsaw chaps and proper safety gear. God is with you. ✝️🙏❤️

Actually tiny homes of Maine relocated after the fire at the airport hanger, I've heard they were possibly selling to Hancock lumber. BUT we do have Amish in Hodgdon and Smyrna that build storage 'sheds' that you can have built to suit your needs.
