There is a lot of crossover between motorcycling and walking hiking. Navigation and appropriate clothing, eating, weight reduction in kit etc etc. For the Navigation, although I was a late convert to gps I would never want to lose the ability to navigate by map and compass. And I still plan all my routes on maps before transferring to a gps programme. The map of course is an excellent back up or on route reference point. Never throw a map away and have accumulated dozens. Happy travels ou boa viagems.

Absolutely! I love maps but I also really appreciate what GPS can offer. Makes me laugh when people feel they have to choose between the two. Learn both, have fun and enjoy. It's a great skill to have being able to navigate comfortably with a map and compass. Cheers. (I'm going to get my girlfriend to teach me some Portuguese. Haha)
