Gido's Fishing Adventures

Gido's Fishing Adventures

5 жыл бұрын

We hike into a new area to camp and fish for a few days. Dane lands a Samson fish and I lose one but I catch lots of blue groper and a few other fish for dinner. We also drop Danes iPhone into the ocean, gone forever!
(no we aren’t fishing in Japan, just had to come up with a name and this will do)
WARNING Rock fishing is dangerous.
Don't try to replicate this kind of roped in fishing

Hi Gido, Terry again, i a bit addicted to your films, i fished NSW'S northern coast gamefishing and big snapper fishing and Jewfish, did it for 20years in early days, 70's 0nward as i mentioned before and done about 6 super eight films with were taken on catching 60lb plus northern bluefin tuna (longtail) which i have had transferred on to a disk, it was all we had in them days and only had 5minutes per film. What you do with, i think they go pro's , is awesome you get to film the whole day and can wear them, you put a giant effect into fishing some of the world's last frontier locations in evil terrain. I don't rockfish anymore and had some amazing adventures with it and a lot of great catches and it is great to watch your films, brings back memories for me and can see , with your adventures, the new levels you have taken it, you tube is newish to me and watched a fair bit in the last 6months and out of all clips i have seen yours the best , can really relate to it but watching your film's sends double the chills on my neck then what i use to do. Those Sampsons are a mega catch from where you get them, we get them over here off the rocks and amberjacks but generally smaller ones , 5 to 10lbs , and they a great bonus and fight good, can only imagine the ones you catch, then drag them up almost sheer cliffs, what breaking line you use?? Anyway enough for now, don't wan't to put you to sleep, keep the films come'n , i enjoy them immensely, thanks.

Hi Terry, yes technology these days is great. I use 2 GoPro's and simply take spare batteries etc, nice and easy to carry and use. Glad your enjoying the vids. On my heavy setup I'm using 80lb braid with about 2-3m of 170lb leader or similar and 50lb braid on the medium outfit and 80 or 100lb leader.

@gidosfishingadventures
@gidosfishingadventures 4 жыл бұрын
Bluebone is a northern species. Ill assume you mean western blue groper which is what I catch a lot. To increase your chances you need to fish somewhere remote, you don't need deep water it could be a sheltered cove protected from the swell but if its remote and nit fished much if ever it should have groper. Use the orange or purple rock crabs as bait is best by far. I normally cut them in half and put the hook through a few legs to help keep it on. Maybe smash a few up as burley if you can get enough easily 👍

what size jigheads do you guys typically use? No doubt you've covered this in another vid somewhere but could you explain your whole set up. What knot do you use for leader to mainline, what lb and length leader etc? Cheers, tight lines!
@gidosfishingadventures
@gidosfishingadventures 5 жыл бұрын
Mostly 3oz. We use a fg knot to connect 80lb tasline to 170lb varivas. Leader is normally just at a length so I don’t have to wind it onto the spool for better casting but sometimes longer especially if we’re fishing higher or there’s lots of snags for big fish to get you on. So 2-3m and sometimes longer 👍🏼

I think I was a bit closer to the water than 6m but yes it can be tricky landing and releasing them. If the conditions allow it I fish even closer to the water. The fish don’t help thrashing around on the rocks but we do the best we can. I’ve seen plenty swim of fine
